Half of US voters say Iran should be bombed

What was said about Iraq. Twice.

Whoever compares Saddam's rant with Iran's determination is a classic moron.

So did Iraq.

If I recall correctly one third of Saddam's air force had fled to Iran even before the conflict started and the rest was comprised of vintage soviet migs, saddam's army, battered by continuous pre-invasion bombing by the US forces, was nothing but a slogan and Saddam's navy was comprised of several pieces of coastal boats. So, this is the adversary the brave americans faced with their state of the art military forces.

Then when? I can step up on the moral ladder and say something pretentious like 'There is never a time for conflicts and that we should resolve our differences peacefully.' and get all kinds of applause. But the problem for mankind is that conflicts are inevitable when there are irreconcilable differences between competing ideologies and proponents of one ideology will create openings for conflicts. In other words, conflicts are thrust upon us, whether we want them or not.

Nobody has been forcing the yanks to invade other countries, matter of fact, the yanks have been playing the dirty bogeyman for the last half a century to maintain their global hegemony.

People accused US of invading Iraq on a whim,

Of course, it was not a whim, after all the world community was shown the evidence of Iraq's WMDs. Besides, who can forget Iraq's intention to nuke the west in 48 hours!

The issue is not about Iran capable of attacking US on our home soil. But as the world becomes more and more interdependent, regional instability threatens EVERYONE to some degrees, directly or through intermediaries. It is telling of this fact when people say that Iran can supposedly 'cripple' global markets through controlling the Strait but then turn around and say since Iran cannot attack US Iran is 'harmless' to US.

Let's say the threat is not of Iran blocking the Hormuz strait but more of uncle sam robbing the resources of the weaker nations.

Strait of Hormuz Iran's secret weapon worse then a N-Bomb.

some facts!!

* WHERE IS THE STRAIT?

-- A narrow bend of water separating Oman and Iran connects the biggest Gulf oil producers, such as Saudi Arabia, with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.

-- At its narrowest point, the strait is only 21 miles across.

-- The strait consists of 2-mile (3-km) wide navigable channels for inbound and outbound shipping as well as a 2-mile-wide buffer zone.

* OIL SHIPMENTS

-- Oil movements through the strait account for roughly 40 percent of all seaborne oil traded in the world, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).

-- The EIA estimates tankers carry between 16.5 and 17 million barrels of crude through the narrow channel daily.

-- Ninety percent of oil exported from Middle East Gulf producers is carried through the strait.

-- The bulk of the oil exported through the Strait of Hormuz travels to Asia, the United States and Western Europe. About three-quarters of Japan's oil imports and about 50 percent of China's pass through this strait.

-- An additional 2 million barrels of oil products, including fuel oil, are exported through the passage daily, as well as liquefied natural gas (LNG).

-- The world's largest LNG exporter, Qatar, ships a total of 31 million metric tones annually through the strait to Asia and Europe.

-- The EIA predicts oil exports passing through the strait will double to between 30 million and 34 million barrels per day by 2020.

-- One of U.S. Central Command's key missions in the Gulf is to ensure the free flow of oil and energy supplies.

-- The U.S. Fifth Fleet patrols the Gulf from its base in Bahrain.

* TANKER WAR

-- Between 1984 and 1987, a "tanker war" took place between Iran and Iraq, where each country fired on the other's oil tankers. Foreign-flagged vessels were caught in the crossfire.

-- Shipping in the Gulf dropped by 25 percent because of the firing.

-- Of the 239 tankers attacked, 55 were sunk or written off.

* STRATEGIC CORRIDOR

-- Merchant ships carrying grain, iron ore, sugar, perishables and containers full of finished goods also pass through the strategic sea corridor en route to Gulf countries and ports such as Dubai.

-- Heavy armor and military supplies for the U.S. armed forces in Iraq and other Gulf countries pass through the channel aboard U.S. naval, U.S.-flagged and foreign-flagged ships.

Well, I don't think that the USA WILL bomb Iran. We are a war weary bunch, now. However, Iran definitely, positively, deserves to be bombed. We really should obliterate Qom. But, we won't. Because, down deep, we are peaceful ......

That's a lie and you know it. Americans are very violent and statistics prove it. They have the highest murder rate outside of Africa and Latin America, the most people in prison both in absolute numbers and per capita and a military budget equal to the rest of the world added together.

The US has fought more wars than all countries that did not war with the US combined. In fact, except for Congo, Kargil and Ethiopia-Eritrea, all wars since 1990 were fought with the direct involvement of the US.

Then why your people want to bomb Iran? Do you understand the potential consequences of an attack on Iran? :woot:

The thing is, in most third world countries, murders, rapes, domestic violence etc don't always get reported and recorded. Those statistics many not necessarily give an accurate down-to-earth picture.

True.

Half of US voters say Iran should be bombedFavour military action against Tehran if sanctions fail
By AFPPublished Wednesday, November 23, 2011
Fifty per cent of Americans believe military action should be taken to stop Iran's nuclear programme if sanctions do not work, a national poll released on Wednesday said.

The Quinnipiac University survey also found that more Americans disapprove, by 50 per cent to 44 per cent, of the job President Barack Obama is doing -- although more people than not approve of the way he has handled foreign policy, including his management of thorny US relations with Tehran.

Some 55 per cent of respondents said the United States should not take immediate military action against Iran, with 36 per cent in favour.

The number in favour of using force increases to 50 per cent however if sanctions fail, with 38 per cent against.

"Americans are very concerned about the development of an Iranian nuclear programme and don't think the current policy of economic sanctions is effective," said Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac Polling Institute.

"Voters are not yet to the point that they want the US military to stop it, but 50 per cent say that if the sanctions eventually prove to be ineffective then they would support the use of force," he added.

The Quinnipiac survey also found that 46 per cent of voters believed the United States should support Israel if it attacks Iran, with six per cent saying Washington should oppose Israeli action and 44 per cent saying the US should stay neutral.

The poll found that two in three Americans (60 per cent versus 33 per cent) believe economic sanctions against Iran are currently ineffective.

Foreign policy, particularly Obama's handling of Iran, are bright spots for the US president.

While voters said, but a margin of 48 per cent to 45 per cent that he does not deserve a second term, they felt more charitably towards him on foreign policy, which garnered 49 per cent approval against 45 per cent disapproval.

The president's handling of Iran meanwhile won the support of 48 per cent of respondents, compared to 45 per cent who disapproved.

This week, Britain, Canada and the United State announced new sanctions on Iran, citing a report by the UN atomic energy watchdog this month suggesting Tehran was researching nuclear weapons.

Britain said it was "ceasing all contact" between its financial system and that of Iran. The United States and Canada said they would also clamp down on the sector, including on Iran's central bank.

The Quinnipiac poll was conducted by telephone among 2,552 registered voters between November 14 and November 20 and had a 1.9 per cent margin of error.

Baap ka raaj hai na haraamzaadon ka! Jis ko dil kia bomb ker dia!

I am sure if you take a world wide survey 50% of the world population would want America to be bombed and bombed back to the stone age!

If Iranians, or Pakistanis for that matter, were asked the same question, I have an inkling more than half those voters would want to bomb the US. Why do we insist on holding the Americans to a higher moral standard than us. Do you expect more from your next door neighbor or the guy you work with than you do from yourself? Such a flawed concept.

I do not agree that half of Pakistani's or half of Iranians would want to bomb the USA for no reason.....But since Iraq and especially Afghanistan is a reason that has created a lot of hatred for the US foreign policy and military campaigns plus the drone attacks. On the other hand the Afghans or Iraqi's weren't attacking the US, neither was Libya/Syria or many other countries.

A few bombs on the voters neighbourhood will show them what suffering that the very weapons that they developed and wanted to use on some one will bring to them.
the US general mentality is becoming more and more like they used to have in the cold war era against the communists.
what a bunch of fools they are becomming

It's mostly because the US itself hasn't been hit back! But jump in a war where the opponent country too can hit the US cities with devastating effects would teach them what it feels like to be bombed.

A Chinese misusing statistics and not doing basic research before he said something.

How many have died in Mexico's drug war? - latimes.com
Until May many major international news outlets covering Mexico used the general figure of 34,000 or 35,000 drug war deaths -- while bodies have kept piling up in shootouts or discovered in mass graves by the hundreds. In the border city of Ciudad Juarez alone, for example, at least 976 people have been violently killed in the metropolitan region since the beginning of 2011, reports the tally at Frontera List.

But several news outlets in Mexico, as well as the peace movement of poet Javier Sicilia, have begun citing a figure of 40,000 dead since last month. A U.S.-based law-enforcement group favoring more liberal drug policies assembled this online data map from news and Internet sources to arrive an estimate topping 40,000, an increase of about 6,000 since the last official figure. (The Times lately has cited an estimate of at least 38,000, based on the official figures plus an approximation for the first months of 2011 derived from mainstream Mexican media tallies.)

Many drug-related deaths are simply not counted, and scores of people remain missing or disappeared. As The Times has reported, the missing constitute a confounding mystery that casts doubt on virtually any figure of deaths related to the drug war.
No surprise there...

Yup, the same military that the ENTIRE Middle East, including Iran, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, are afraid of. So much that ALL of them practically begged the US and Western allies to come in and do 'something'. Of course, we give you guys a sop: We said that it was an Egyptian unit that first entered Kuwait. But everyone know better.

No need to worry, there'll soon be revenge for the sh*t US has done across the world in last 60 odd years. Mainly US dissolving into 20 pieces. Can't really get more humiliating than that.

USA also backed down in Georgia.:woot:
We never had any presence in Georgia to start. But look at what the Soviets invested in Cuba before the naval blockade. By the way, a blockade, land or water, is an act of war. The US effectively declared war against Cuba and Soviet sponsor.

Dream on. But even if that dream does come true, it will not be because of anything you guys can do, so there is nothing 'revenge' about it.

USA is a funny country with full of impotent rage. They couldn't do anything to USSR and china hence they went after North korea in korean war and Vietnam and got humbly thrashed.Couldnt do anything to saudi arab after 9/11 they went after iraq/afghanistan and got soundedly beaten.now seems they want another sound thrashing from iran.

:lol: That is funny. The US and allies fought right at the Soviets' and China's doorsteps. Literally. And what did both of them did during the entire Cold War? Foment revolutions in South America that stalled and eventually collapsed.

Couldnt do anything to saudi arab after 9/11 they went after iraq/afghanistan and got soundedly beaten.now seems they want another sound thrashing from iran.
We got beaten in Iraq and Afghanistan? We who defeated the militaries of both and occupied them later? Unable to face the truth that a military of any country is the official defense of that country, and that the defeat of the same has been the classical definition of a military defeat in any era of history, people like you have no choice but to strain the proverbial gnat to eke out new definitions of the word 'defeat' to give yourselves false joy that the US was 'defeated' in Iraq and Afghanistan.

But do enjoy yourselves. We have no problems with being so...aaahhh...'defeated' over and over...:lol:
