URGES CENTRE GOVT TO LIFT BAN ON EXPORTS The HAL is plan- ning to send its team to Colombia, Brazil and Chile.

These countries, sources said, want at least 100 copters in next five years

A marketing sortie to Latin American countries is high on the agenda of the Hindustan Aeronautical Limited (HAL) this year.
Sensing a huge opportunity in South America to sell its advanced light helicopters, HAL has already approached the Centre with a request to lift the ban on copter exports imposed on it.

The ministry of defence had directed HAL to stop marketing the ALH, one of its success stories, till the time it meets the commitment given to the Army and the Indian Air Force.

The HAL has to produce 157 helicopters for the Army and IAF. The Navy is yet to decide on ALH as the light-weight helos pose difficulties during ship-borne operations.

“Last year, we delivered 25 ALHs to MoD,” a top source told this newspaper.

“We will be giving 30 this year. Citing this, we’ve written to the Centre assuring that all helicopters will be delivered in time. We had some sales enquiries, but couldn’t respond due to freeze on exports.’’ The HAL’s earlier bid to sell ALH in South America wasn’t very successful. The only hit was Ecuador. The

last two copters were shipped last week.
“There is a good market and ALH has proven its capabilities in the South American skies,” added the source.

“We have flown in all weather conditions and operated in different terrain.” The HAL is planning to send its team to Colombia, Brazil and Chile. These countries, sources said, want at least 100 copters in next five years.

“Since we have proved our flying skills, we have a clear edge. And ALH pricing is also attractive,’’ the source added.

HAL feels that its sales team must be given more freedom to make sales calls outside the country. “While other manufacturers visit 20 times a year, we make two or three visits,” said the source. “This affects follow-up. But we have now officially requested the ministry to adopt a more liberal view.”

. . .
LCH has a greater potential to generate revenue as compared to ALH.

Its the time now....if our armed forces need more Dhruv they should place the order because if HAL wins these deals (which has great chances) they will be obligated to fulfill these orders first....

CRPF and BSF alone needs a a couple hundred choppers for their operational independence, quick mobility and increased surveillance for far flung border areas and naxal infested jungles....

Use of more choppers in naxal operations will be a game changer, i don't know why we are not using enough choppers for these operations....?

Why HAL is not establishing more and more facilities to build aircrafts?
it will take max 5 years to train engineers and build these facilities..

Govt is making very careful moves against naxals. Airborne rids can result naxals doing their activities more like kidnapping, killing police etc...

wat was that?????

Naxals ALh Brazil, columbia govt?????How do u link them together??

The commonality can benefit both, because it gives advantages to an export country to buy them together and reduce logistics and maintenance.

I would agree with the MoD/GoI- HAL needs to complete its order for Dhruvs for Indian armed forces first. There is still a ridiculous number of Chetaks flying around in IA/IN/IAF with the outstanding order for Dhruvs not complete and the order for WSI Dhruvs not even started. So 30 a year means it is to take quite a while for HAL to complete these orders (4-6 years).

.
If it happens, then It will surely be a game changer For Indian Defence exports. It will certainly help in earning better revenues which directly influence the Economy as a whole.

I see some good orders coming up soon from that region. Good development.

So we should be scared of them? This government is pathetic in dealing with the smallest threats. Fighting Naxals is no big deal if the government has the will to do so. Air raids, ground raids.. you name it. I think we should outsource our raids to Israelis. They would do the job thousand times better than Chidu can even dream of.

Its great news ,i must say that DHRUV MK3 is best in its class with very reasonable price !HECK!!!who else gonna offer this heli 30% less than its counter part..
