Gurdaspur attack: India, Pakistan citizens battle online

Indian and Pakistani netizens slugged it out in the virtual world as tempers flared over Monday's terrorist strike in Gurdaspur by gunmen suspected to have sneaked in from across the border in an attack that is likely to cast a cloud on resumption of talks between the South Asian rivals.
Government sources said the terrorists may have sneaked into India from Pakistan on Sunday night through the unfenced border between Jammu and Pathankot or Chak Hira in Jammu district. Islamabad condemned the attack and said it was not aware of any reports that the people involved in the attack were Pakistani.
Pakistani social media users said infiltration of militants was highly improbable because of the high level of border security and there was no evidence linking Pakistan with the attack, in which 10 people were killed.
“This high level of double point fencing and security, with mine fields, vibration and movement sensors. BSF troops 24×7, night lighting on the J&K – Indian border which is visible from Space station, CCTvs and what not; and still saying infiltrators sneaked in?? joking is it ?? or taking bribes to let this happen???” a Pakistani user posted on defence.pk/forums.
Outraged Indians hit back, accusing Pakistan of harbouring and training terrorists on its soil. It was not clear who was behind the Gurdaspur attack, but the needle of suspicion pointed to either Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba or Jaish-e-Mohammed.
“Pakistan back to its terrorist exporting hobby… what else can a failed nation suffering from blasts .polio do anyway…. 200 millions useless people wrapped up in an area that is a curse to humanity…” said one of the responses.

The slugfest over the terror attack comes weeks after prime ministers Narendra Modi and Nawaz Sharif met in Russia and agreed that top security officers from the two countries would meet to discuss counter-terrorism.
Some users took the middle ground, saying any loss of life was deplorable and terrorism must be fought as a global scourge.
“For my Pakistani brothers, lets not get carried away, in moments of tragedy people say insane things. It seems true for some Indian posters, lets not add fuel to the fire. I don't know why some of us are celebrating while we have faced more violent terrorist attacks ourselves. We should offer our deepest sympathies to the families of the decease and wish fully recovery to the injured,” a Pakistani user posted.
Indian users said Pakistan must dismantle the infrastructure that trained insurgents on its soil.
“As usual shameless behavior is being displayed by many Pakistanis on this board. When something like this happens in Kashmir the excuse is "it is justified in a disputed territory". Now they don't even have that. It is pure support of terrorism and one wonders why Pakistan is one of the holy shrines of terrorism!” posted an aggrieved Indian netizen.
