a highly underrated Gupta empire which emerged in the early 4th century which covered more territory than it has been credited to in the western written indian history, it was a pan indian empire, a title which has only been credited to maurya empire in india's pre islamic periods and no one else
most of the gupta empire maps seem to show a very conservative expansion of its territories
some inscriptions from karnataka seem to indicate gupta rule in the territory, the site of pattadakal in karnataka also shows fusion of shikhara style of north indian architecture merging with the vimana style prevalent in the south, this seem to indicate a north indian influence which arrived during gupta rule in the region

the evidence actually indicates that pan indian gupta empire was controlling much more territories than it has been credited to in the modern day maps and its territories extended all the way to tamil nadu and karnataka in the south during height of its power.

The rule of the Gupta Empire during the 5th century brought about a period of political stability, during which Aihole became a locus of scholarship. The experimentations in architecture extended into Badami over the course of the next two centuries. This culture of learning encompassed Pattadakal in the 7th century which became a nexus where ideas from northern and southern India fused.[3][17]
