Gulf, Arab and OIC summits in Makkah: News and updates

.
@The SC

Do you expect anything new in this summit or any political steps to be taken? Or will be it like a UN security council briefing?

If something real comes out of it like rapprochement with Qatar or even a greater coalition, then it would be a success imo.

I just see 3 circles.. GCC, than Arab league, then OIC.. first time I see this pattern with simultaneous summits.. this on its own is something special.. what comes out of this is hopefully as special as the event itself..

Libya's Foreign Minister attends preparatory meeting of OIC summit
May 30, 2019 - 17:57

Written By: AbdulkaderAssad

The Libyan Foreign Minister Mohammed Sayala arrived in Jeddah on Wednesday and met with his Saudi counterpart Ibrahim Al-Assaf to discuss the mutual relations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit's schedule, Saudi Arabian news agency said.

This is the first meeting for a Libyan Presidential Council's government official and a Saudi official in Saudi Arabia since Khalifa Haftar, who is backed by the Saudis, has launched his April attack on Tripoli.

In addition to OIC summit, Saudi Arabia is holding Arab League and Gulf emergency summits in Mecca.

The Libyan Presidential Council has tasked the ambassador to the Arab League Saleh Al-Shamakhi with chairing a delegation and attending the Arab Summit in Mecca on May 30.

Activists and politicians in Libya urged the PC to boycott the summit as its attendance would be an insult to the people who were killed by Khalifa Haftar's attack on Tripoli, backed by Saudi Arabia itself.

The High Council of State also called on the PC to boycott the Mecca summit due to the "shameful stance" of the Arab League toward the attack on Tripoli.

While Libyan Foreign Minister Mohammed Sayala said that eight countries had previously hampered the convening of an emergency summit called for by Libya to condemn the attack on Tripoli.
