The Afghan frontier had always been a thorn in the eyes for the British as the troublesome Afghans never accepted the Durand line. Also the expansionist Russians looking for an access to the hot waters kept the British on their toes. To keep the imminent threats at bay the British built a string of fortifications,cantonments,airstrips and infrastructure across the NWFP than.Below are some historical pictures taken by the pilots.
