ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Greece need to improve their commercial and economic relations to promote bilateral trade and investment by taking advantage of new business opportunities.

Ambassador of Greece to Pakistan Petros Mavroidis on Friday at Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) made these remarks while talking with Yassar Sakhi ****, President ICCI.

Olive oil is one of the major and well-known products of Greece and is known to be the finest in the world. He said Greece could export huge quantity of olive oil to Pakistan and it could provide its expertise and experience to plant olive trees on a large scale in Pakistan.

Mavroidis said cooperation in energy sector could be one of the areas for strengthening economic relations between the two countries as current annual bilateral trade between Greece and Pakistan was very low which was around $500 million that needed to be enhanced by exploring the areas of common interest.

Yassar Sakhi **** expressed concern on the role of international media that portrayed a very negative image of the country. He said this was the right time to focus on non-traditional markets, adding frequent exchange of business delegations and establishing direct B2B contacts were the options, which should be used to exploit untapped bilateral trade and investment potential in both countries. He was of the view investment cooperation was another area in which both countries could collaborate for mutual benefits. Information technology, telecommunication, construction, automobile parts, food processing, fisheries, agriculture, hotel industry and real estate offer tremendous opportunities and potential for cooperation, he added. He said organising of joint cultural shows and frequent exchange of business delegations were the options which could bring people of both the countries closer to each other that would eventually enhance the mutual cooperation between Pakistan and Greece. ppi

I hope that besides boosting economic ties with Greece, Pakistan can, perhaps in the future, help to bring about a greater rapprochement between Greece and our dear friend Turkey !

P.S Why the heck does PDF censor the word 'Butttt' ! Oh bhai kesssi key zaaat bhi ho saktei hai we're not talking about someone's rear end ! :woot:

I hope our relationships are improved with every nation of the world but that does not mean we are donating money to Greece to improve our relationship

Greece of course is part of European Union so naturally a wealthy country but still has not managed to come out of 2008 recession and heavily suffering from both inside and outside of the country.

Good news we need good realtions with all the nations we can get .

every country want to have ties with us because future belongs to us also. Just we have to improve our internal politics first.

Yes we should have relations with all countries but we must make sure our exports are more.

This is good news; I welcome improving ties with Pakistan & Greece. I love the ancient Greek civilization & the fact that they had to contact with us centuries back. Unfortunately as the article suggests, Pakistan will have to work hard to remove any negative image Greek investors have of our country while building an environment where it's both safe & feasible to conduct business.

Greece coming out Eurozone will have serious implications on its economic stability and its international trade in short-mid term, as they'll head back to their former currency, Drachma. They'll have serious problems replacing all euro's with Drachma, while their currency will depreciate quickly because of no international takers.

European Unions should think about any other alternate routes to bail out Greece.

You are right but then Greece will not be buying Europe's inflation anymore and will be able to manage her own policies as per her own desire. There are strong implications for Greece if she decides to leave Europe but then Greece survived as a Greece only for centuries... So they will be able to overcome these issues in the long run
