A cargo plane which crashed in northern Greece was carrying 11 tonnes of weapons - including landmines - to Bangladesh, officials say.

People living within two kilometres of the site where the Antonov-12 came down have been warned to stay indoors.

The aircraft was flying from Serbia to Jordan when it crashed late on Saturday close to the city of Kavala, killing all eight people on board.

Eyewitness video showed the plane on fire and a huge fireball as it crashed.

Did BD already take the delivery?

Earlier foreign secretary stated that the weapons had insurance and Bangladesh didn't conseive any financial losses. He however couldn't give the information about the weapons and it's cost.

If you are talking about insurance then seems like BD had already taken the delivery at source.

If we had taken delivery, wouldn't it be transferred by our cargo planes? Even if not, our armed forces members would have been present in the cargo, but all the dead are ukrainians

You can still hire/pay others for transport after you took the delivery.

I would like to think it is an accident, Serbians are more close to the Russians than to West.

BD Government confirmed the shipment.

Who bears the loss depends on the shipping agreement and insurance coverage.

Damages to Greek lives and properties will probably be compensated under relevant international aviation agreements.

The Antonov is rumored to have been Ukrainian. The pilots were Ukrainian and the Serbs said it was 12 tons of mortar ammo going to Bangladesh. Apparently the pilots reported an engine fire and tried to land it on a clear field.

There were no civilian lives lost.

Why would a plane going from Greece to Bangladesh go through Serbia which is West of Greece?
