I found these series of lectures very helpful for trying to learn Farsi:
While reading Farsi was never a problem for Urdu speakers (both are written in the Nastaliq script), the sentence structure & the accent differences made it incomprehensible for Urdu speakers, even though Urdu shares a lot of vocabulary with Farsi. I've noticed that if an Urdu speaker understands the basic rules of Farsi, it isn't that hard to speak basic Farsi.
I've already picked up a little Farsi just watching these videos:
Bilal dar kitaabkhaana ast
Kitaab bar meez ast
PDF bad ast
Urdu asaan ast, Farsi neest
