LAHORE: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry has on Thursday urged the government to press the United States for provision of civil nuclear technology to help Pakistan overcome the ongoing electricity crisis.
In a statement, LCCI President Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said that the US should provide civil nuclear technology to Pakistan, as it has to neighbouring India. He said the decision to provide civil nuclear technology to Pakistan will not only strengthen relations between the two countries, but will also cement economic ties.
“Pakistan has more than 35 years of experience in running nuclear powered plants. With a trained workforce and a strong nuclear safety and security culture, Pakistan fully qualifies for participation in civil nuclear cooperation at the international level,” the LCCI President said. “We ask the government to urge all relevant forums to increase Pakistan’s access to nuclear technology for peaceful uses, in a non-discriminatory manner, to meet its growing demand for energy,” he said.
The LCCI President said that increasing power consumption has resulted in surging in unemployment and contraction in industrial productivity.
Sheikh said that Pakistan has failed to derive benefits from its sizable coal resources due to one reason or the other.
He said the only way out of this conundrum is seeking civil nuclear technology, which he hopes the United States will provide.

Yes, agree with point the only way to get out of this mess (loadshadding) is getting civil nuclear technology. But why after 33 years of experience they can't build it themself? Why still looking for US, who only look for anyone. And never for Pakistan?

Stop depending on USA or China, and stand up on your own feets.

true we should not ask anybody to help when we are not ready ourselves.

US already has nightmares with Pakistani nukes. How can anyone in his right even think that US will give such tech to a country with a shady proliferation record?

But anyways, people are free to fool themselves.

After proliferation of nuke warhead tech to Libya, NK and Iran, Pakistan won't get any nuclear deal.

Pakistan have this technology but currently china is doing that in pakistan 2 plants are already working and 2 are under-development but they are small plant with cost 6 years to compelte .they main problem is pakistan is not going for the Big Nuclear power plant project they main of making such plant we have to approve power plant desgin from super powers even pakistan can build but no 1 is approving but france could

And how many years do Pakistan has experience of proliferating nuke technology illegally to other countries???

You dont get it bro They are Mentioning $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$:rofl::rofl: for help to Build Power Reactor.

But the truth is, you don't need $$$$ to do anything. The only thing you need willingness, courage, and commitment to complete a project. same case is for big nuclear project, if they can work on nuclear defense technology without anyone's help, without so much $$$$ what stopping them to build a civilian nuclear plants which will in the end will help pakistan to grow their economy and move forward.

less years then India Begging Israel and USSR for the same, and US for civil. Got your answer, so shut up, and stop interfering in Pakistan's internal matter.

Its one thing to make a chain-reaction haywire and result in KABOOM but its totally a different ball game to control the same reaction and produce a living out of it. I agree Pakistan has Nuke Reactors but having one specially for civilian purposes and that too on a major scale, thats a break through.

Pak has very poor proliferation record and they will never get approval from IAEA..they are better off with China.

. . . . . . India Begging Israel and USSR for the same, and US for civil.. . . ..
Pls remind me last time India and Israel commissioned a working reactor on Indian soil. Also as a matter of fact we were doing amicably even b4 the Indo-US deal.

i don't knw why pakistanis keep cribing about civil nuclear deal when they knw it very well that no country except china will provide them civil nuclear tech let alone US.

Secondly, look at India we were also in the same embargo as pak but we had 22 nuclear power reactors of our own although mostly 220 MW n we produced around 4,780 MW from them n now we have made 500 MW reactor n prototypes of 700 MW reactor all this without civil nuclear deal

But even with support of China n even US(i mean as in past) look where pakistan stands in civil nuclear power production n u'll get the answer...:argh:
