The next version of Android will be called Android KitKat. When I read the initial headlines blasting through my Twitter feed, I said to myself, “I wonder how Nestle feels about this.”

Clicking over to the actual Android announcement page, it’s clear that Nestle feels just fine, thank you. It’s an actual partnership.

Android versions 1.5 to 4.1 have long been named after calorie-intensive and/or post-meal edibles: Cupcake, Donut, Éclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean. But none so far have been tied to actual brands (Honeycomb was bee-centric, not named after the cereal).

And so to Android 4.4, which will not only be named KitKat, but will sport the Android mascot made out of KitKat bars and be tied to a promotion wherein you can use codes found inside KitKat wrappers to try to win Google Play app store credits and Google Nexus tablets.

I’m no marketing whiz, but this seems like an incredibly unusual tie-in. It should be fun to watch unfold, though. Of all the Android-related treats, I’m more of a donut man myself, but Android 1.6 Donut has come and gone with no Android Runs on Dunkin’ promotions.

Google might have just accidentally revealed the Nexus 5
By Tom Warren on September 3, 2013 06:48 pm

Google has been busy partnering with Nestle for a KitKat themed Android 4.4 release, but it seems all the chocolate excitement may have given us an early look at the Nexus 5. In a promotional video accompanying the KitKat announcement, a Google employee can be seen taking pictures, at around 38 seconds, of the new lawn statue. The employee in question is holding what looks like a new Nexus device, with the rear of the device featuring a horizontal Nexus logo — just like the new Nexus 7— and a matte finish and large camera lens that hasn't appeared on any existing Nexus devices. The mystery device also includes an LG logo at the rear, meaning the two companies may be collaborating on another Nexus handset.

After a Nexus 4 price drop and the introduction of the Moto X, a Nexus 5 may well be on the horizon. We've reached out to Google and LG to comment on the mysterious Nexus, and we'll update you accordingly.

Update: Google has now removed the video from YouTube, marking it private. But we obtained a copy and have republished it below:

Please visit the link to watch the republished video.

Update 2: An LG representative offered no specific comment on the video, saying "we have nothing official to announce at this time."

What happened to android 5.0 Key Lime Pie 5.0 ? dead?

Its been one year since they were talking about this upcoming android version

If its 4.4 then don't seem a major update as difference between 4.2 and recent 4.3 were minors
