Well in Jyutping, "hong bao na lai" would be pronounced like this "hung baau naa loi".

But we don't really say that here. Just say it in Mandarin, and every Cantonese person will understand you.

I am against saying 恭喜发财, it makes us sound really low class and money oriented, needless to say, also not going to be begging for red envelopes. my friends have just switched to a simple 新年快乐.

Well, in Cantonese we prefer to say 恭喜发财... because "快乐" sounds like "快落" in Cantonese.

That doesn't apply to Mandarin of course, since "kuai le" sounds different to "kuai luo".

Though personally I will always say both of them. I'm not superstitious at all.
