Global warming may turn Pakistan barren in 40 years: UN Report
ISLAMABAD: A UN report on economic and social survey on Asia-Pacific 2008 launched in here on Thursday warns that due to the global warming, Pakistan may turn into a barren land within a span of four decades. The report was launched in more than 20 capitals in the region and in New York and Geneva on Dilating on the Pakistans economy, the UN report says that Pakistan economy will remain strong at 6.5 percent in the year 2008 However, it expresses concern over the ever-rising inflation that rose by 10.3 percent effecting low-income group in Pakistan. The survey warns that the new government established after Feb 18 polls will have to take hard decision to control inflation in the country. The UN experts also suggest reduction in the size of the government for smooth running of state affairs. It further says that more work is needed to improve provincial taxes in the country. The UN report proposes that Asia needs new agricultural revolution to lift 200 million people out of poverty.
