Govt officials harass Geo news team

ISLAMABAD: Government functionaries harassed Geo news investigation team which was on duty Wednesday near Chak Shehzad farmhouses.

According to Geo news correspondent Rashida Yaqoob, Geo news team was intercepted and harassed by five officials clad in plain clothes. They threatened crewmembers of dire consequences and snatched videotapes from cameraperson.




Now the Question is, if they deserve it. Is GEO TV Anti-Pakistani?

Any information that is too sensitive and may create an adverse national security climate is generally called classified and such informtion needs to be known only to those who have an absolute 'need to know'. That's how it works in the world, and the media, which is the mass communication medium for the public is not included in the 'need to know' list when the issue is that important.

Therefore, keeping classified information secret is the duty of those privy to such information.

Any sensible government needs to maintain stringent controls over who has access to such info and must ensure that they do not share it with anyone, including mistresses.

Geo T.V. must be banned for good and DAWN must be punished for putting false information time and over again, without taking the National Security into consideration.

I am really pissed off at our Intelligence Agencies, had they focus less on politics and more on other frontiers of Pakistan including our media, we would have been in much better shape

What was the investigation about? Hmmm perhaps the government officials thought they might be terrorists filming the landscape to aid Musharraf's assassination, since it was at Chak Shehzad.

Geo is of course not working against Pakistan. Its just that sometimes they forget their job and all basics of journalism and media. Nonetheless, its one of the better media out there.. if you compare it to the Indian media which is a laughing stock.

This might be off topic.

A few months ago my friend had a talk with a senior Geo news official, discussion was going on between them about the violence GEO were showing on TV on 12th MAY , during the discussion a question was asked that why were they filming a guy who had been severely injured by a bullet that went through his neck , instead of helping the guy the cameraman was filming him while he was in intense pain and agony. His answer was that he was proud that the cameraman filmed the guy instead of helping him, he said that their first priority was to show everything on TV.

I cant believe that someone can be so inhumane , and this is the case with all of the worlds media, they think filming a guy in pain is their priority instead of helping the guy.
