General Dynamics NASSCO Starts Construction of the Future USNS Medgar Evers

SAN DIEGO | General Dynamics NASSCO, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), today began construction of the future USNS Medgar Evers, the thirteenth ship of the U.S. Navys T-AKE program. The Medgar Evers is named in honor of the U.S. Army veteran and civil rights pioneer from Mississippi. The ship is scheduled to be delivered to the U.S. Navy in the second quarter of 2012. When it joins the fleet, the Medgar Evers will be used primarily to stage U.S. Marine Corps equipment abroad by the Navys Military Sealift Command.
