General Atomics offers additional sensor package to India bound Predator drones

While India is in talks with the United States to purchase 40 Predator surveillance drones for its Armed forces Dr Vivek Lall chief executive for global strategic development, General Atomics in an interview with Indian media has informed that General Atomics will be offering Detect-and-Avoid (DAA) system which has recently been tested aboard a Customs and Border Protection Guardian UAS .

General Atomics’ Due Regard Radar, is an air-to-air radar designed to enable flight in international airspace. The DAA system includes Honeywell’s Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance system and Sensor Tracker, which is specifically designed for DAA.

Lall also confirmed that Predator-series RPA may be integrated with multiple ISR sensors and in the offer will be state of the art EO/IR cameras and GA-ASI’s Lynx Multi-mode Radar which features a State-of-the-art Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) mode that offers all-weather ,day/night performance for a wide-area search capacity.

An additional sensor on offer is Ground Moving Target Indicator (GMTI) mode that provides a quick and easy method for locating moving vehicles .

India is also negotiating for 22 Predator drones for Indian Navy For Maritime missions and General Atomics is offering Maritime Wide Area Search (MWAS) Radar mode provides the capability to complete a variety of maritime missions successfully, including coastal surveillance, long range surveillance, small target detection and search and rescue operations . Predator series also will be equipped with Automatic identification System (AIS) for identifying vessels at sea , while a wide array of sensor package been offered to India will be discussed soon and will be integrated as per customer request said, Lall .
