Future of Pakistan Bangladesh relations

Would you accept that we might never know the real headcount of those killed ?

Well well. Actually the govt knows the full details of those killed and wounded. Pensions, family pensions and treatment are done accordingly. Fyi, civil admin in the occupation govt had functioned till the end. DCs, SPs, Police Stations, etc worked till liberated.

I understand.

It is not like every villager was receiving a pension. If the entire family got wiped out who is there to make a request for assistance ?

Is that how Indian bureaucracy / admin machinery work? No, it does not. Deaths will be reported by various offices / agencies and recorded. Families would perhaps not report a death during a war.

Count of Death certificates would be reliable way of getting a good headcount

most of the folks born in the 1970s did not have a birth certificate. All of them requested notarized version in the 1990s when they requested passports. They requested passports because of IT boom in the 1990s.

if births were not recorded I can assure you deaths were not recorded

Recorded on a some piece of paper. What does the paper look like ? What does it say ?
We are talking about death certificate done in a haphazard manner

Ideally census data would be great if you had a census in 1970 and another one in 1972. We know that does not exist.

Bangladeshi minds are poisoned to hate Pakistan.

Thats not true. Moreover, theres plenty of hate coming at Bangladeshis from Pakistanis also.

I suggest both sides move on from the past. There is trouble against both groups in the present from common adversaries.

Dunno which profession are you in, or what is your experience of life? Govt records are are not kept in some pieces of paper even in India. Unless proper records were maintained Govt wouldn't be sending pension to NOKs. Fyi, that list includes my younger brother.

What % of the population gets pension ?

Ration card is the only source of truth for a long time. When I left India it ceased to be the source of truth for me. Being a NRI with no immediate family in India it took me a week to gain control of my bank account. It was thanks due to friendly professional bank staff.

You ask too many dumb questions. Why don't you find out by yourself?

It is a simple question. What % of the population gets pensions ? It should be a low number. You cannot use that to figure out anything.

You are living in a Euro-Western centric world. So you will find more book on battle of Hastings(1066AD) or Battle of Bannockburn(1314AD) than a major war involving between two poor non-western countries. So, what's so strange if you don't find any book on 1965 war or 1971 war outside south asia? But it doesn't negate the importance of 1971 war on Bengali mind or minimize the pakistani atrocity. If Bangladesh become a powerful and influential country in future, than our history will generate much interest worldwide.Isn't it simple?

You are trying to insult the liberation movement and emergence of Bangladesh as a byproduct of some sort of policy failure on part of Pakistani army and seems to regret that.Bangladesh is independent because, 70 million people wanted it and was determined to sacrifice anything to achieve that goal. Please do not act like, you are speaking as a representative of Independent Bangladesh. You are a mourner from East Pakistan.

A 'Euro-Western centric world'? Which world would you suggest I live in? A Bengali nationalist centric world? Your world? No thanks...

There are books on tactics and strategy regarding non-Western theaters of war. Sun Tsu's The Art of War is a part of Chinese literature after all. The war of 1971 is just not in military academia. Very little is known. I don't see how that is being 'Euro-Western centric'.

I am not insulting the movement for separation. It was a model bound to fail due to simple geography. Nixon asked the Chinese to advance their troops at the Sino-Indian border just to scare the Indians, but they didn't. They knew the inevitable outcome. Why conduct a military operation for no reason? The man was bad at strategy.

I was suggesting a different approach to our Pakistani friends here. Rather than criticizing the war crimes trial in Bangladesh, I suggested something which would be beneficial for the global military academia as a whole. Knowledge creates value, and value advances humanity no matter which point of view you look at it. If you found that offensive, then I take it that you are not a very educated person. There's also a thing called mutual respect which maybe very alien to you and your kind.

I never said that I'm a 'representative' of Bangladesh. I would say that I'm a minority. But if you are going to be a representative of Bangladesh here, then please by all means go right ahead. I can already see how well that is going. Bangladesh becoming a 'powerful and influential' country in future. How exciting!

I used to be just like you. But then one day, I decided to have a really good look in the mirror.

1971 was a political and ideological farce.
