The Commandement des Opérations Spéciales or COS (Special Operations Command) is an elite military unit combining the use of the French Army, Navy, and Air Force.
The 3,300 member unit specializes in hostage rescue, counter-piracy operations, and high value individual raids.

These men 're doing a thankless job, I've always wondered what keeps 'em so motivated?
I watched till they were performing a forward attack maneuvre and making a landing strip on a desert. Will watch the rest when I reach home.

Soldiers, especially the "elite" units don't find it hard to keep motivated- they usually love what they do.

+ most soldiers will use the same cliche- what motivates them to keep going is the man next to them ie they work for the unit and the unit's success, everything else is irrelevant.

@Gabriel92 the French military surely has some of the finest elite units around!

maybe I can shed some light on the subject

I did shop around recruiting station for AF, Army, Navy and Marine. The AF promise me a good career, good money and good after care and train me as a pilot or mechanic if i cant paSs the eye test, my bro did this route and he got a crusy job working for boeing now.

Then I ask the Navy recruiter, he offer me travel and bip ship, i can be a ship captain or aviator like topgun. Good job and travel opportuntity.

Marine recruiter offers me exotic location travel and good job and an uniform people die for (Who dont want to wear the marine dress blue)

But when I walk into an army recuiter, you know what he said? I can guarantee a lousy job with crappy pay, and when you finish your stint with your country you will get almost no skill that you can reuse in civilian world, but they can guarantee me a front row seat in any combat this country is gonna fight. The next thing i said is where do I sign?

The US army has always been unfairly sidelined in favor of USMC even though the Army does the heavy hitting and also takes the heaviest hits.

I cannot say Army were being sideline, but they certainly did not get the same attentions than the Marine.

When you talk about the Marine, you think they are a tough bunch with snappy clean and smart uniform.

When you think of the Army, you think of a few drunken idiot standing guard in an Army base.

Its about people preception. But in the end, the marine branch is a lot smaller,so it may appear they are more elite than the Army.

But then this goes with territories, we dont like the devildog in our AO and they dont like theirs to be invaded by the Army, but in most case it would ne an army officer leading a Joint Army-Marine Task force.

Everybody in the US armed forces hated the Marine, the Army, the Navy and the Air force, cause the Marine is the only branch that steal responsibilty from all 3 branch...

I wanted to tag you on this thread immediately after I saw paratroopers in the video (it reminded me of your thread on this topic), but then I decided against it as I didnt want to torture you every now and then. Lol
What was it that was strapped to each paratrooper's wrist? and why were they wearing red helmets while jumping into an enemy territory?

What no one sold you the chance to fight and die for your country as the main reason to join the armed forces ? :undecided:

:what:

Army hates Marines, Marines are the little brothers of the Navy inter-sibling rivalry but doesn't spill over, but Air Force?

Here's come motivation that you can throw at your brother, the US spent more training you than him.

Do you mean this:

altimeter.jpg

It's a Altimeter (used to measure altitude)

and why were they wearing red helmets while jumping into an enemy territory?

To protect against head injuries that could be caused by paratrooping- standard practice for military and civilian paratroopers alike.

well, the airforce had a beef with us when we used to operate fixed wing and well, they won....

so, if they have a beef with us the army operating fix wing, would you not think they too have the same beef with the Marine?? hehe and still, the Marine have their own air support branch

the Marine motto is, hated by all, but proud of it...lol

And yeah, the only thing I can hrag about is the army put more money to train us than the AF to train him, but he always win the argument in the end with he bring home more dough...and i have been working odd job after odd job after my discharge....

You know what?

Lol a lot of thing got wore in the trooper wrist, but if you are talking about the watch thingy, then yes its as @Abingdonboy said, its an altimeter.

Only HALO jumper wear that, so you know when to deploy your chute. Static Line jumper dont wear them as chute opens after jump whether you like it or not anyway..

I dont know what that mean with the Red Helmet thingy for the French, but in the US, we use a bright color headband on our helmet each HALO Jump so we can spot our own guys from the air, otherwise you cant see where they were before they open their chutes, if you cant see where they are you in the air then u will be seperated when you land...

You could also use a strobe on your helmet

lol no, in fact the Army recruiter is a very beautiful female soldier, I didnt even look at the form and was looking at her all the time when I sign it, hehe

and girl, dont talk like that...

You were with the 75th so go become a contractor. There are plenty of jobs to be deployed or even train.

Get certified in IT or Comp Sci, and get a desk job in Ft. Meade.

Forgot about the Air wing..

I hated marines more after this
