Ladies & Gentlemen,

The Freelance Truth Team will be paying Gen Hameed Gul a visit in the very near future to spend a few days interviewing him.

One of the objectives of Freelance Truth is to make media coverage a little more democratic by interviewing the people that the public wants interviewed and asking the questions that the public wants to ask, but the corporate media won’t. We aim to make this process as interactive as possible, so participation is absolutely welcome.

We will shortly also be interviewing other high profile individuals such as Imran Khan and whomever else the public wishes to nominate for the next interview.

There will be no censorship, there will be no PEMRA blocking content, there will be no editor at Dawn or Geo to tell us what angle to push or what color to give the interview. Please email us (preferable), or simply respond here with the questions you would like to ask the General and we will ask them on your behalf. We will announce the details of the airing of this interview at a later date, but do expect it to be within 30 days from today. We can be reached at freelancetruth AT gmail.com
Look forward to your participation.

With best regards,

The Freelance Truth Team

Excellent idea, provided you yourself are not controlled by larger interests in one way or another. But even if you are, the cure to that is more and more democratization. Let a thousand flowers bloom.

But one suggestion - Gul is known to be an extremist - so try to balance Gul by asking somebody like Ahmed Rashid or Hoodbhoy to react to what Gul is saying.

May I suggest that everyone post their questions and try to compile a list here or email them to us rather than turn this into a discussion thread. Regarding our own objectivity, you'll see for yourself that we're just ordinary guys who have nothing to do with any larger interest. We simply feel that one must approach each subject with an open mind and provide everyone the opportunity to speak fairly. we have no intentions of having any other individual interact with our interviewees since our purpose is to communicate/educate rather than entertain.

Best regards

Gen. HAMEED GUL has been one of the few who have contributed a lot towards building of PAKISTAN ARMY. Even the AMERICANS nicknamed him PAKISTANI ROMMEL during AFGHAN JIHAD against Soviets
My question will be : What should be the strategy to take on & get rid of US once & for all

Guys
Please refrain from passing comments about the personality. At best he may be controversial, but he is as great a patriot as anyone else. Please try and submit your questions and get him to answer them before you make your mind up. Persionally I remain impressed, with what he says.
Mods How are we going to pass our questions to the relevant people. Is the thread fed back to the interviewers automatically. Please let me know so that i can post my questions

I have watched a couple of his interviews, and know a bit about his opinions, The question I'd ask him:

What role does he see for Islamization of Pakistan Army, considering there are two adversaries - Unislamic India on East and Self proclaimed Islamists from West / Within.

As PA was secular till Gen Zia came in the picture, and Gul's recent views suggested that to counter India in an effective way, religion can be used as a strong motivator, but the same can return to bite back on the western front.

Question: What can you say about logistics / supply routes of Fazlullah and Mehsud? Why has Pakistan Army not been very successful in interdicting the same? Note that Swat is not on the border with Afghanistan.

1.What where the biggest blunders commited by the islamist.

2.What should we do about kashmir.....restart the jihad or take the peaceful propaganda route.

3.What does he think about BM-faizullah.

4.How would he fight the war in SWAT in a military way not political......what type of weapons, tactics ect would he be using to defeat the terrorist.

I hope you put up the links on this forum:smitten:

Another question: Pakistan has been in military alliance with the US for most of its existence. Obviously, the reason for such alliance was Pakistan's obsession with India.

Do you think that this obsession with India has resulted in poverty, extremism and loss of sovereignty.

Secondly, do extremists within Pak military support the Musharraf-Manmohan plan for resolution of the J&K conflict?

Sir,

You need to find something better to do with your time---rather than interviewing Hameed Gul---you should come and interview me.

That guy would only tell you what you want to hear---I will talk to you how it is.

Talk to me---the country needs to hear something different.

My questions are as follows.
1. You have maintained that Zia,s death was arranged. Why was it so necessary and what was gained by it? In your view who gained the most out of it.
2. You ran the ISI Afghanistan op following gen. Akhter Abdul Rehman. What differences in your view were there between the two of you in the running of the op, what did you change and why?
3. the military has intervened in Pakistani politics quite a few times. Do you think it has been good for the country or not? please elaborate.
4. Military has in its governance not developed the institutions of judiciary and other national institutions to stand up as individual independant bodies. Was it another way to keep the country dependant on the military ?
5. What has been the role of all the aid in the development of Pakistan. If the military junta is so patriotic, why have they not refused the Aid and allowed the nation to stand on its own feet?
6. You have commanded a fair amount of respect amongst the masses. Why have you not translated your movement into a political one?
7. Afghanistan continues to burn. What is the answer in your view and why was theZia administration not able to carry it out?
8. What were the most significant successes andfailure of your career?
9 Do you see the evolution of the political setup in pakistan as the only way out of the quagmire that Pakistan is in or what else do you suggest.
10. You have been critical of the Army operations in NWFP. What in your view is the answer/solution to the problem.
11. the Baluchistan insurgency-- Is there a foreign hand and if so what is the solution for it?
12. What in your view is the solution to the Kashmir crisis and how do you see the situation evolving over the next decade or 2? Will there be an independant kashmir . Will Pakistan benefit from it or not? Would India benefit from it in any way?
13. Many military acquisitions have been tainted with charges of kickbacks and corruption? What are the reasons and what do you see as a practical solution to the problem?.
14. Do you think Gen.musharraf should be made to answer to the courts for his illegal acts? What would be your charge sheet against him?
Regards
Araz
