The flooding is the major issue - to worsen the situation, the insurance b****ds will not pay for flooding.

Dude for us south asians who are used to brick, mortar and RCC homes, these bollywoodish wooden houses here are kinda uncomfortable. My home back in TN can see this 10 times over and still be there

That is true- Remember when I was young, a severe cyclone hitting "Madras" and it rained for 4 days and the only thing bothering was the powercut and the flooding of the streets. We stayed put at home playing the game of Monopoly with other kids not worried about anything.

I guess the fact that you guys have wooden houses in the States only makes it worse..
A Concrete structure would be able to take this pounding provided its windows are in good shape.

The foundations of most houses are made of concrete. Its just the top levels which are made of dry wall. This is due to the extreme temperatures flux in North America which causes the walls to contract. If they were made of concrete, the walls would develop cracks.

Because:

1 - Its very unusual for a Hurricane to hit Continental US so high up on the Eastern Seaboard.
2 - Its impacting an area which is heavily populated which can cause massive casualties.
3 - The Eastern Seaboard is not as prepared to deal with Hurricanes as Southern USA like Florida is.
4 - It is merging with a Cold Front from Canada which creates a Perfect Storm. Same thing happened in 1991, and which the movie is based on.
5 - Its very rare for this type of occurrence, last time something like this happened was more than 20 years ago in 1991.
