credit to mevotex@miricommunity.net The Jewish people may account for less than 0.2% of the world's population, but among the 1,426 billionaires around the globe, 165 or 11.6% of them are Jews, and their joint wealth has reached the incredible amount of $812 billion, according to Forbes Israel. Out of the 50 richest people in the world, about a quarter or 25% are Jewish, and of the top 10 richest Jews in the world, eight are from the U.S., while two are from Russia.
The Jews - making up 11.6% of world's billionaires with 0.2% total population The world's wealthiest Jew is Oracle Inc. CEO Larry Ellison, with a fortune estimated at $43 billion. Ellison, the third richest man in the U.S., has seen his fortune increased by $7 billion since last year. His company has 50% market share of the world's database management system. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is in second place with $27 billion, up $5 billion from 2012. He appeared 13th on the world list. Bloomberg L.P., the company in which he owns 88% of the partnership, control one third of the information flowing through the global financial data. Casino mogul Sheldon Adelson is third with $26.5 billion and was 15th on the world list. He owns 52% of Las Vegas Sands, the world's biggest casino operator that operates the iconic Venetian Resort Hotel in Las Vegas, Venetian Macao Resort in Macau, and the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. The share price of Las Vegas Sands has risen 20% since last summer.
Larry Ellison, the world's wealthiest Jew Other Jewish billionaires in the top ten include Google's Larry Page and Sergey Brin with $23 billion and $22.5 billion respectively; financier Carl Ichan with $20 billion; financier George Soros with $19.2 billion; Russia's richest man Alisher Usmanov with $17.6 billion; Mikhail Fridman with $16.5 billion; and Len Blavatnik with $16 billion. The fortune of Facebook Inc. founder Mark Zuckerberg has declined in the past year because of the company's unsuccessful IPO, and he is ranked as the 16th richest Jew. The Silicon Valley wonderkid though, is still worth $13.3 billion. The richest Israeli, Idan Ofer, is 34th on the list at $6.5 billion. He is reportedly moving from Israel to London. In racially-homogenous East Asia, where outsiders rarely make it into the billionaire list, Michael Kadoorie represented the Jews. The Chairman of CLP Holdings Ltd., a company that provides electricity to 75% of Hong Kong population, is the only non-Chinese billionaire in Hong Kong. His wealth is estimated at $9.5 billion.
Jewish billionaire Sheldon Adelson watching lion dance performance in Macau While an official stat has never been compiled, some analysts put the Jewish control of American economy at 40% while Russia 80%. Other sources claim this is an exaggeration, estimating the figure instead at a lower 25% and 60% respectively. The Jews are believed to have a dominant financial influence across Europe. In the U.K. for instance, half of the country's top 10 richest are of Jewish origin. The Jewish tribes formed the Kingdom of Israel and Judah in 1030 BC along the present-day border of Israel. Israel later fell to the Assyrians in 722 BC while Judah conquered by the Babylonians in 586 BC. 2,500 years after the Babylonian captivity, the Jews returned and established the State of Israel in 1948. Last month, Israel celebrated as the country supplants the U.S. to be the worlds largest Jewish population center, with the total Jews living in Israel exceeded 6 million while that in America 5.5 million. The global Jewish population was estimated at 13.8 million in 2012, though the figure is still lower than the 18 million in 1939.
New haven for Jews: East Asia, where they are widely revered Amid the global financial crisis however, hostilities towards the Jews have been on the rise. The Anti-Defamation League for instance, found that 31% of Europeans blame the Jews for the economic downturn, while a survey conducted by the Boston Review shows nearly 25% of Americans blame the Jews for their economic problems. The Jews though, have found a new haven in East Asia, where there is an avalanche of admiration for them. Many Chinese express great admiration and personal warmth to the Jewish people. Most Chinese will think Jews are smart, clever or good at making money, and that they have achieved a great deal, something they would love to emulate Professor Xu Xin of Nanjing University said. China's positive view of Israel has skyrocketed in recent years, as illustrated by the former Chinese envoy to Israel, Zhao Jun, who told Israeli media in 2010 that, "You might not know this, but we in greatly China admire you and your Jewish mind." China has long welcomed Jews fleeing persecution, such as in the 1800s and after World War II. The Chinese stereotype the Jews in a positive way and link accomplished Jewish personalities such as Albert Einstein to the Jewish people as a whole.
Jewish Talmud - a compulsory reading material in South Korean schools As China prospers, there is a burgeoning industry of self-help books that use Jewish culture and the Talmud to preach business tips. Sales and production of business guides to the Talmud has exploded, making them equivalents to books such as Sun Tzu and the Art of Business. There's even a Talmud hotel in Taiwan inspired by the Talmuds concept of success that features a copy of the Talmud Business Success Bible in every guest room. South Korean ambassador to Israel, Ma Young-sam, surprised reporters in 2011 by saying that the Talmud is a mandatory reading for Korean schoolchildren, and that there are more Koreans than Israelis who own a Talmud. We tried to understand why the Jews are such geniuses and we concluded that (it is because) they study Talmud, explained the South Korean ambassador. The study of Talmud has become part of the national educational curriculum that is now compulsory for every Korean schools. The stereotype of Jews in South Korea is that they are ultra-intelligent people coming out of nowhere to become business chiefs, media bosses, Nobel Prize winners, and the Koreans want their children to do the same. The fascination is so strong that the Talmud is a bestseller in South Korea.
Japan increasingly believes that learning from Jews can help it overcome challenges from China and South Korea Lee Chang-ro, head of a literature research team at the South Korean Ministry for Education, says, "the reasons why Korean children are taught Talmud are pretty obvious. Koreans and Jews both have a long history of oppression and surviving adversity with nothing but their own ingenuity to thank. There are no natural resources to speak of in Korea, so, like the Jews, all we can develop is our minds." Jews are greatly admired in Japan, and polls reveal that the Japanese admire Jewish people the most of any people in the world. Some Japanese view the Jews as powerful or affluent, while others admire Jewish intellect and prosperity. As its economy stagnates, there has been increasing calls in Japan that it should learn from what is imagined to be Jewish business tactics and strategies. Many Japanese profess to admire Jews for their intelligence, business acumen and strong ethnic loyalties.
Michael Kadoorie - richest Jew in East Asia, controlling 75% of Hong Kong's electricity supply The admiration dated back even in World War 2, when Japan was allied to Nazi Germany. Japanese leaders and industrialists came to believe that Jewish economic and political power could be harnessed by Japan. Throughout the war, Japan was regarded as a safe refuge from the Holocaust, despite being a part of the Axis and an ally of Germany, and continually rejected requests from the German government to establish anti-Semitic policies. China, Japan and South Korea are the 3 leading industrial powers in Asia, making up 84% of the continent's GDP.
