The Navy is investing in Guam through submarines and infrastructure, according to the commander of the Pacific submarine force, who said this week the service plans to have five fast-attack submarines stationed in the U.S. territory by the end of 2022.

“We are focused on the Pacific and increasing our posture there,” Rear Adm. Jeffrey Jablon said Thursday at the Naval Submarine League’s annual symposium.

As the Navy starts moving the subs to Guam, there will be increased infrastructure to support it, Jablon said.

There is a pier plan to support the Virginia-class Block 5 submarine that will eventually come to Guam in the future, Jablon said.

Not only is the submarine force expanding its presence on Guam, the Marine Corps and the Air Force are also advancing in the area, Jablon said.

The Navy is considering putting the Standard Missile-6 on Guam, the only weapon system that could have the capability to defend against hypersonic missiles.

“Investments are being made on Guam and they’re really impressive right now. We need to continue those investments because our focus is only going to continue to move the forces West,” he said.

Jablon also discussed the effectiveness of submarine-launched unmanned aerial vehicles in a communications-denied environment such as the South China sea and highlighted the Pacific force’s Submarine-Launched Unmanned Aerial System program as “very successful” in addressing the threat to secure communications.

“My vision is that a submarine launches an unmanned aerial vehicle, but then the submarine can go submerge, do the things it needs to do and come back up and talk to that aerial vehicle and get the information downloaded from that vehicle,” Jablon said. “I think that’s where we need to go with that concept, but we’re not there yet. If we could get there soon, that’d be great.”

Why 5.. Let me in on the loop?

I find the whole Guam ordeal interesting I understand the importance of it but just not how it can properly be defended out in the nowhere but nonetheless a good forward base

I just don't believe the Americans anymore after the Afghan debacle. They lie through their teeth.

Same as Diago Garcia for British.

Their planning to build a 360 degree integrated air defense for Guam. I also expect the Army to deploy the LRHW Dark Eagle hypersonic system on Guam which can strike most of China from Guam.

LOL you strike China and expect to remain safe? These Americans are lunatics. Bloodthirsty lunatics. After getting a savage beating in Afghanistan the next humiliation is at the hands of China and Russia.

Weren't you the same guys swearing that Pakistan would provide military bases to USA? What happened to that promise?

AUKUS also plans to have British Nuclear Submarines dock at Australia with the 12 x SSN the RAN is planning

rather than returning all the way to Scotland they will undergo deep maintenance cycles at Australia

so you can add 1-2 x Royal Navy + 12 x SSN from RAN and you have a very formidable Hunter Killer pack right there

add 5 more from USN + dozens from JMSDF plus another dozen from South Korea

and on top of that the regular SSN from USN

you are looking at around 20 x Hunter Killers nuclear powered + 20 x SSK very advanced submarines from South Korea and Japan

all inter-operability and will ensure no Chinese submarine ever breaks out into the deep Pacific keep them bottled up inside 3 chain islands

easy pickings for P-8 Poseidon

Each sub can carry a combo of 65 missiles + torpedoes'.

At least 40 missiles per ship comes out to 200 Tomahawks. And people are forgetting that there will be ample amount of air and sea cover near Guam. Not to mention all classes of UUV's too.

These subs will definitely not be alone but part of a Multi-Domain Operation:

Closer to possible conflict. Instead of basing the subs at Hawaii or on the U.S. West Coast, having them at Guam lowers the response time from weeks to days.

You don't have to believe anything.

You expect China to strike Guam and think its safe? You see them deploying the so called Guam killer missiles you don't think there will be a U.S. response? You talk about the next humiliation but Russia was also in Afghanistan as well. You think China could have done better if it was fighting in Afghanistan for whatever reason? Don't make the mistake that after Vietnam debacle U.S. won't fight another war, we saw that in Gulf War. You think after Afghanistan it must be over for the U.S., but they are just getting ready for the next possible conflict as you have just seen with new weapons and bombers as well as shifting resources to Asia-Pacific.
