This is the first video of Barak-8/MRSAM's multi-mission radar (MMR) video recently unveiled. This will be the backbone of MRSAM developed for IAF. :smokin: Enjoy.....

@Kinetic-I thought that the Barak-NG was for the Navy and that the IAF would receive the Surface launched Python and Derby MR-SAM(SPYDER) system! Was this mere speculation or did this "rumor" have any weight?

IAF bought 18 squadron of SPYDER systems. This has nothing to do with MRSAM.

There are two joint development project LRSAM (Navy) and MRSAM (IAF) with Israel. Both are similar in many ways specially missile but have different radars, fire control system etc. Both are called Barak-8 naval and land version is Israel.

SPYDER is a Short Range or a Point Defence Quick reaction SAM if I am not mistaken.

Actually SPYDER is a medium range SAM but not point defence. Its a quick reaction air defence missile system developed for low to medium altitude targets like fighters, choppers and cruise missiles. Its consists of active radar guided Derby missile and IR guided Python-5 missile. So its difficult to escape.

if IAF get derby missile along with SPYDER, then what you have said is corrent..otherwise not..

Even if this is a quick reaction air defence system then what is the need of indo-french maitri quick reaction air defence system???

It is not 'if' IAF gets Derby with SPYDER because Derby is integral part of SPYDER system.

Because they are different. If everything is on schedule than IAF should have got SPYDER already. It should have joined IAF in March 2011 while they even not started the testing of SR-SAM. It will take years. The SR-SAM will be more advanced than SPYDER.
