The Belgian Army purchased 66 SPIKE-MR anti-tank missile systems in 2012. Last month, it executed the first firing test at a NATO training area in Germany
The first Spike MR anti-tank anti-armor guided missiles were fired at the Bergen-Hohne training area in Germany on 17 and 20 November, 2015. The test was executed by soldiers of the Belgian army, in collaboration with the Dutch Army. This test was reported on armyrecognition website.
The Spike is in service with the Dutch army since 2001, as an alternative to the Dragon missile of the Royal Netherlands Army and Marine Corps. The cooperation between the armies will is a will enable the Belgian soldiers to take advantage of the experience and knowledge of Dutch soldiers.
In 2012, the Belgian Minister of Defence approved a budget for the purchase of 66 new anti-tank missile systems for an amount of 41 million Euro. The German Company Eurospike won the contract with its anti-tank and anti-fortifications missile Spike Medium-Range (MR). The SPIKE-MR operates in Fire and Forget mode with autonomous medium-range target engagement up to 2500m.
