Run over this story today and I am amazed...

At the 2th April 2010 was the first big clash between Taliban and Bundeswehr soldiers in Afgahnistan near the village Isa Kehl... in Germany known as the Karfreitag Gefecht.

build up of the battle... german airborn troops had the order to detect and clear IED´s.
Some 34 german airborn troppers were ambushed by 30-40 Taliban... which hit three german soldiers in the opening of the battle, the companie chief called for more troops and a reserve company moved out from their base in Kunduz. The Bundeswehr used two different drones to observe the battlefield... US Air Force was ahead but could not engage the enemy without risking friendly fire. The wounded were lifted by US Medivac to the next military field hospital... as everything was clear they were ordered to seperate from the enemy and return to base. As the airborn troops wanted to leave the area with Dingo APC one was hit by a IED...

4 soldiers wounded 3 seriously in life danger.. At the same time the Taliban started a attack on a near Afghan Police station with 40 more men. This was the start of a 8 hour long battle were 4 more soldiers were wounded.
During the battle the air borne troops fired 25.000 shoots...
That was the background story...

now the story... one of German soldiers a NCO´s name is Naef Adebahr... his father is a Jordanian his mother is German.. he was born and raised in Germany, he wanted to join the Bundeswehr since he was 16...but he finished school, first and trained a job befor he finaly join the Bundeswehr with 23yo for a 12years duty. He become a german air born trooper and as his unit moved to Afghanistan he was already a group leader.
The unit is equpied with small drones called Mikado... and in the forplay of the battle one of the drones went down over Isa Kehl because of strong winds...
He recived the order to seak the drone, for that his groups was reinforced with more men..
They seaked the village but could not find the drone so they went back and made a report.
They continued the seak in a nearby field with his own group... they were covred by a Dingo... as they have covered 3/4 of the field the Taliban (already had encircle the Germans) started to attack with 30-40 men the 4 man on the field. He ordered his man to elude the attackers... on his second jump he was hit by three bullets... two went through his legs and one through his heel... about 30 minutes he and his man were trapped on the field and the Taliban nearly catched them but supressing fire stoped them close befor reaching Neaf and his men... 4guys were needed to rescu Naef...at that time a 100kg massive guy... he was brought to cover and a sani gave him first aid..till he was flown out by US medivacs under extrem gun and RPG fire... the US Chopper crews were the first froeign soldiers who recived the highest german miitary award after the battle as they risked their own lifes under fire to evacuate Naef and the other wounded...

at the end of the day three german soldiers died... Neaf survived and made of his 12year duty a lifetime duty becoming a career soldier. Today he works at a Bundeswehr sportschool... 2016 he was third for 200m running at the invictus games for handicapped wounded soldiers.

Well, if you think that is bizzare. We had Lance Corporal Jabron Hashmi, a British Army soldier who was killed fighting in Afghanistan in 2006. He was born in Peshawar, Pakistan only about 25 miles from the Afghan border. His family moved to UK and when he left school he joined the army and his unit was deployed to Afghanistan. He died not too far from where he was born. What a irony.
