I see PTV's cameras haven't changed since 1987 @JamD
do you have a video of this display? I have been looking for this takeoff roll for a while but could not find itDuring the induction ceremony of No.11 Squadron with the newly delivered F-16s at Sargodha, a PAF pilot was flying a demo in an F-16A. He took off with the gear extended and started a roll right after take-off.....the jet disappeared behind some trees. Luckily he pulled up and carried on with his display. He was the first OC of No.11 Squadron at Sargodha. He also flew the solo display at the 1983 23rd March Parade. Retired as an Air Commodore and is presently in Bahrain working with the Narcotics department.
Nope but there might be one. I doubt the pilot (SJ) would want to relive that moment of crashing a brand new Viper in front of everyone...do you have a video of this display? I have been looking for this takeoff roll for a while but could not find it
take a look at this song and go to 3:50Nope but there might be one. I doubt the pilot (SJ) would want to relive that moment of crashing a brand new Viper in front of everyone...
Shahid Javed was the pilot. He almost crashed it from what I've heard.take a look at this song and go to 3:50
The F-16 take-off is from the same air display and the pilot would do the roll right after this clip..unfortunately for PTV brainiacs, the cut out that amazing roll in this song...still looking for it. I think this was flown by Sqn Ldr Shahid Latif
My dad was there (he himself was a fighter pilot) and told me about this roll right after he came back from Sargodha that day but did not say anything about the near crash. He was the ACAS Flight Safety so if anyone should have been concerened it would have been him. Infact he was very impressed with that roll and he mentioned that the shear power of the F-16 allowed it to perform this roll..any other plane including the mirage will crash right away. I remember seeing the display that night on TV and from the TV angle, did not see signs of the plane going behind trees and losing altitude. So I don't think that is correct that this was a near-crash. It may have lost some altitude during the roll but I am sure Shahid Javed kept enough of a safety margin before trying this maneuver. Remember the President, the top brass of PAF and the whole nation was watching thisShahid Javed was the pilot. He almost crashed it from what I've heard.
Go to 39 mins
Very wobbly entrance by ACM Shamim...looked like he almost ran the plane into the ground...
This was the very first F-16 fly past
My dad was there too, he was on F-6s at the time (started flying F-16s in 1986) and was helping out with the parade. Maybe you're right about the loss of altitude, but yeah he carried on with his display. May I know your father's name, chances are my dad might know him.My dad was there (he himself was a fighter pilot) and told me about this roll right after he came back from Sargodha that day but did not say anything about the near crash.
