NDO – Military-run telecommunications group Viettel has installed the first base transceiver station (BTS) of fifth generation (5G) in Vietnam on the roof of the Viettel Centre in Hoan Kiem District.

This is one of three 5G base transceiver stations test broadcasted at this time, according to Viettel.

The other two 5G stations are deployed at Viettel Net office at No. 19 Duy Tan and Viettel Grop office at No.1 Tran Huu Duc, in Hanoi. In early May, the base transceiver stations are expected to be officially broadcasted, bringing the first experience of 5G service in Vietnam.

According to a Viettel representative, in June 2019, 70 base transceiver stations of fifth generation 5G will be tested in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, to prepare to deploy a large-scale 5G network.

At the ASEAN Conference on 5G recently held in Vietnam, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam highly appreciated the Ministry of Information and Communications in coordinating with ASEAN countries and international organisations to organise the conference on 5G in Hanoi.

According to the Deputy PM, the conference not only covers technological issues, but also has great significance for Vietnam and ASEAN countries in the cooperation of digital economic development. 5G is scheduled to create a new generation of Internet, with artificial intelligence and blockchain which will fundamentally change the world's new production methods.

According to Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung, 5G is an opportunity for Vietnam to change the rankings in the world. Vietnam has ambitions to be among the world’s first countries to launch 5G networks in 2020, with a testing phase expected in 2019. Viettel is the leading enterprise with the deployment of the base transceiver stations.

Congrats.
Is Viettel a telecom service provider or manufacturer? If it is a service provider which companys equipment is it?

Viettel is both: equipment maker and telecom service provider.

It's most likely huawei. If it's not they would have mentioned it.
Extremely unlikely that any high profile Vietnamese company will use Huawei. Vietnam has a license agreement with Qualcomm, which allows Vietnamese companies to access 140,000 patents of Qualcomm. There is little Huawei can more offer than Qualcomm.

Qualcomm doesn't make Telco equipment, they make chips. If you think the base station are just Qualcomm chips, then you wouldn't need to import from Huawei. They spend 10 bill in RND my friend. Vietnam makes nothing technologically advanced.

Huawei and PLA Vietnam Successfully Deploy LampSite Sharing Multi-operator Solution for Indoor Coverage

May 18, 2018

[Hanoi, Vietnam, May 18, 2018] Recently, Huawei and PLA jointly announced the successful deployment of the first multi-operator indoor digital system in Vietnam based on LampSite Sharing, a leading indoor digital coverage solution that features multi-operator access. This solution was implemented in Vincom Center in Hanoi for three mobile network operators. The indoor system provides an enhanced MBB experience to users of the three operators better than legacy distributed antenna systems (DAS), proving to be a successful option to enhance 4G indoor mobile coverage in Vietnam.

PLA is the largest tower company in Vietnam, with over 4 million square meters of in-building solution for renting to network operators. Vincom Center is one of the famous shopping malls in Hanoi where VIP users make a high proportion of the entire customer base.

With a growing indoor mobile broadband demand and increasingly popular innovative apps such as new retail, AI shopping, and indoor high-precision navigation, a seamless and high-speed indoor coverage becomes highly important. A better connected indoor life is also essential to a smart, safe city. Therefore, operators and neutral hosts are urgently deploying innovative solutions.

LampSite Sharing suits various scenarios. It is easy to deploy and manage, highlights high capacity, and supports multi-band multi-operator indoor sharing. Such powerful features add extra flexibility in facilitating emerging business models for both neutral hosts and operators. The solution has a lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) than legacy DAS networks and allows for a smooth evolution to 5G networks, which have been long requested by neutral hosts. Therefore, LampSite Sharing enables operators and neutral hosts to move toward the era of indoor digital coverage with multi-operator small cell technology.

It took just two weeks for PLA to swap traditional DAS infrastructure with LampSite Sharing solution in Vincom Center. The swap allowed the new indoor network to be shared among the three operators across multiple bands and carriers. Huawei’s innovative MIMO feature was combined in this deployment to enable a download speed nearly twice that of traditional DAS. Unlike traditional DAS, LampSite Sharing supports network management on Huawei’s powerful OSS platform, U2000, providing real-time end-to-end management and making all components visible across the network during network maintenance.

Mr. Peng Honghua, President of Huawei Small Cell Product Line, said: "It's a tremendous pleasure to help PLA deploy the innovative LampSite Sharing solution. We look forward to helping operators and neutral hosts address indoor coverage issues quickly and efficiently, as we are always focusing on bringing a premium indoor MBB experience to users".

This is from last year, but I guess progress is being made in terms of Huawei's tech presence in Vietnam.

But, 5G is a tough battle because Nokia, Ericsson and Samsung seem to be well-positioned, as well.

Qualcomm is more than just a chip maker. She is a R&D company. 140,000 patents. the winning formula is Qualcomm develops technology, Vietnam licensees the technology and develops equipment. difficult to understand? Why Huawei if we can make the stuffs by ourselves? Not much difficult to switch to 5G if you consider 5G is more or less a software upgrade.

It may have some Hwei componenets, thats not a big problem.
No not a big problem As long as we just import small pieces but make a whole device that is ok.Vinaphone and Mobiphone are said to be the next two carriers that deploy 5g.

As I already explained: Viettel uses Huawei equipment. We just do the assembly works.

Do not propagate false information.

And Qualcomm does not have 5G tech, as far as I know. It was explained in a recent article (in march 2019) on Spiegel.de to justify why Germany is forced to use Huawei despite the US pressure.

MobiFone and Samsung intensify 5G cooperation

Print Email
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. and MobiFone Global signed an agreement to boost engineering and commercial cooperation on 4G and 5G networks in Vietnam today in Hanoi in front of about 100 ICT businesses from Korea and Vietnam.

The signing between MobiFone and Samsung
The event was held by the Vietnam Internet Association (VIA) in collaboration with the Korea National Information Technology Promotion Agency (NIPA). Three other agreements, including a memorandom of cooperation between Mobifone and Korean Tripath on location-based advertisment, a cooperation agreement for a consolidated wireline services between Korean Supernet Company and Newtaco Company, and an agreement on digital conversion solutions between Vietnamese FSI Company and JC1 Company from Korea, were signed.

A representative of Samsung considers 5G network the next big thing that Samsung is launching in many parts of the world with the increasing momentum of the Internet of Things (IoT). He said such a network is also a must for Vietnam as more and more hi-tech tools are applied.

Delivering keynote speeches, both Deputy Minister of Information and Telecommunications Do Minh Hong and Yoo Yong Min, Korean Minister of Science and Information, Communications and Technology, appreciated the joint efforts in building and developing a stronger relationship between the two countries through research and cooperation in the field of IT.

The leaders think Vietnam and Korea should co-operate to confront the 4.0 Industry, confirming that they will sign a memorandum of cooperation between the ministries on March 23 at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi, following Korean President Moon Jae-in’s second official working visit to Vietnam today.

President Moon Jae-in wants to lift RoK-Vietnam partnership to next level
Deuk Jung Kim, vice president at NIPA, told the event that there is huge potential for ICT cooperation between the two sides, citing impressive numbers, like two million Korean visitors arriving to Vietnam, and a 120-time increase in trade volume since 1992 to $60 billion in 2017.

Kim said due to its outstanding human resources in the IT sector, Vietnam has a bright future in the field, adding that the Southeast Asian country was an important partner to Korea.

As a member of the South Korean President’s delegation, Kim said Vietnam is the only country that his president has visited twice since he took office last year.

Not necessary to explain to me, pls post the source bro! It is a VN media that reports it, you claim it lies? You don’t want to claim Qualcomm is a liar too, do you?

A lot of news on Vietnamese media now, as same as Internet media all over the world, are either lies or written by journalists who know nothing about what they are writing and they write to serve some purpose or rhetoric.

I would trust the news from people who actually work in that area rather than news on Internet.
