KOLKATA: A squadron leader with the Indian Air Force was arrested at the Kolkata airport on Wednesday morning for violating no-parking rules and then threatening CISF personnel and the airport manager with dire consequence. He was later released on personal bond.

Abhishek Kishore Mittal drove to the airport to receive his wife. After parking his car in front of the domestic terminal manager's office around 9.15am, he wandered off, paying no heed to protests by traffic wardens. He returned to the unmarked car only around 9.45am. When a CISF constable confronted him, Mittal lashed out at him, claiming that he was an IAF officer and would brook no questions from a constable in the paramilitary force.

"He said that the vehicle would remain there despite the designated parking lot nearby and even refused to produce his ID card. He just wasn't bothered that not only was he flouting the 'no-parking' rule, his actions had even led to a security scare as the vehicle was parked unattended in a no-parking zone for over half an hour," a CISF officer said.

With other CISF constables arriving at the spot, Mittal strode into the airport manager's chamber and intold him that that if anybody made any attempt to tow away his vehicle, he would face dire consequences. By now, senior CISF officers had arrived at the spot and demanded an explanation. When he refused, the officers summoned the police.

Even then, Mittal remained stubborn and refused to either show his ID card or apologize. He turned even more aggressive and abused the policemen. Realizing that the man would not see sense unless faced with prosecution,

The CISF then filed a complaint and police arrested Mittal. Even while being escorted to the police station around 10.15am, he remained defiant.

After fuming for another half hour, Mittal realized he had landed in a spot and called the Air Force base in Barrackpore. Officers from the base arrived at the airport an hour later and furnished the necessary ID proof of Mittal. "The other officers who came down were very considerate. Since Mittal is indeed a Defence personnel, we have released him on a personal bond. But the case instituted against him will remain," a police officer said.

Later speaking to TOI, a senior airport official said, senior Airports Authority of India officials and CISF officers said the attitude of some Armed Forces personnel, politicians and bureaucrats was particularly arrogant and they insisted on parking the vehicle before the terminal, leading to congestion that inconvenienced hundreds of other passengers.

"We have widened the road, set up separate bus and taxi bays and reserved parking lots for VIPs like ministers, bureaucrats and Defence personnel. But many drivers insist on parking the vehicles before the terminal when they come for drop or pick up."

This time iam on side of pilot, He is proud to be and should be:lol: It will give a negative impression for the pilots "we are risking our lives as fighter pilots and this is the way they treat us"
Any way
The pilot will be released immediately.

what to say there are some officers like that from the armed forces which make you wonder how in the hell they cleared the SSB

Some military guys think that they are above the law. He might have faced humiliation with his peers as the news came out in media.

.
He can be forced to fly Mig21 as a punishment for next 6 months.

Was this intended to be funny ?

@ subject, no one is above the law. The Officer was foolish not to comply with the law of the land.

. . .
I think a better punishment for him would be having him help park the cars at the next Open base..
or perhaps have him paint the airport parking lot.

Better suggestion has been given by areesh:thinktank:
If punishment have been given, the other pilots would be angry and we have lack of pilots.

Officer cadre to be exact.I just read a report about why Arab Armies lose wars and one of the reasons pointed out is the arrogance on the part of the officer cadres . We should in any way allow the same to happen to our Armed forces.

CISF is somewhat very strict when it comes to security. I remember an incident in our local airport some years ago when a DGP was stopped from going inside the Airport terminal for seeing off his daughter. Before CISF, it was the local Police who was guarding the Airport and the DGP may have thought he could show his IPS prowness to CISF as he shows to his subordinates.

Why are you on the side of the pilot? He is clearly an arrogant prat who should adhere to the rule of law of the land he has sworn an oath to. Just because he is a fighter pilot or any other officer does not mean they have special rules just for them. He clearly created a security risk- you can't leave a car unattended in a no-parking zone in most modern airports (for obvious reasons) and then when asked to produce his ID he didn't so how is the CISF meant to respond? They don't know this man, they don't know he is a "good guy". It seems the CISF acted in a very professional manner in all ranks from the lowly constable who, no doubt, had to put with a tirade of anger directed at him from this officer to the senior ranks who sided with his men's judgment and followed correct procedure. The CISF's job is the security of the airport, nothing else and as such they acted superbly. O would have thought that an IAF officer who is undoubtedly up to date on threat scenarios, would have appreciated the situation he had created. But,alas, there are always going to be arrogant and foolish people in every walk of life whether they are in the armed forces or not.

And @tvsraam you said fighter pilots' view would be "we are risking our lives for our country and this is the wait they treat us" well what about the CISF personell who risk THEIR lives EVERYDAY for the protection of vital national interests and get MUCH, MUCH less praise or attention than "flyboys" and this is how they get treated?

I wouldn't be surprised if this pilot has had running ins like this in the past within IAF and outside because that just seems to be how he is. And from what I have seen most of the IAF pilots seem very polite and courteous but with subtle arrogance (a needed trait in their profession) so I can't imagine he will avoid a very serious talking to after this outrageous incident.

+ I hope CISF give the same treatment to any jumped-up, no good politician who tries this $hit in the future.
