Advantage:
The longer and slimmer the canoe, less pronounced the effect of friction caused by water will be.
Disadvantage:
Such canoe will be less stable.

Yes that's a centre line tank of F4 phantom.Are the fuel tanks really this big??
Btw there many more innovative ways in which a drop tank can be used, like the one below:
This is dry lake racer built out of an aluminum drop fuel tank from a WWII airplane. It is reminiscent of the SoCal Speed Shop Bellytank but it looks more raw, thanks to the bare aluminum finish. It can run at over 100 mph. You can find it on eBay.
