Every single Asiatic Lions lost is tremendous loss and a big blow to India's biodiversity, considering only few hundred members of this species are alive today. IMO before trying to reintroduce Cheetahs in India, govt should first try to preserve what it has and increase the Asiatic lion population by relocating some of them to other Indian grasslands. Their limited habitat (only limited to Gir Forrest of Gujarat) is their biggest threat as any natural disaster like floods or an epidemic can put them on the brink of extinction.
