So you got like 4 to 5 examples (out of which I had already mentioned two).
If you can read up on those names, you will find that the ex Hindus got killed for fighting against Hinduism or superstitions/black magic. Extremely sad, but in countries choke full of backward under educated people, you need to be respectful while criticizing other's beliefs.
Let me make a final assertion - in India, if you announce that you're an atheist(even from your rooftops), you will be safe in almost all cases. You can go around wearing a T-shirt with 'atheist' or 'there is no god', or 'religion is poison', and no one will give a damn.
You may face violence if you actively criticise Hinduism, Islam and Christianity--because all 3 of these religions have plenty of violent practitioners. Of course, not everyone is violent.
I have known Muslims and ex Muslims from several countries, and they generally can't open up even to their parents and friends about it.
