Farogh Naseem resigns as law minister to represent govt in SC hearing on Bajwa’s extension

It's not just his government that's being protected - stability in the system (perceived or actual) is critical to reforms & attracting investment - those things impact the entire country.

So the government requires an unelected army officer to bring stability to the country? And if so, is this the only army officer of the dozens of Lt Gens in the Pak army that could bring such stability?

The only way your argument holds is if you accept that IKs is a puppet government brought in and kept in power by Bajwa. If that is the case, then the extension serves no one but Bajwa and IK. If that is not the case, then another competent officer can be promoted without affecting stability.

And again, if Bajwa was qualified to be COAS when he was first appointed, he's qualified to be COAS now. If anything, he's more experienced. The reasons for the extension might be political, but it is still an extension based on merit since Bajwa was appointed on merit.

Bajwa was qualified to be COAS for a standard term. He's experienced in this post yes, but that doesnt automatically justify an extension. Otherwise, Kiyani would still have been the COAS, or Raheel Sharif, or may be even Musharraf - he was after all Army Chief and President and more experienced in those roles than our current army chief and president.

Actually, if all that is needed is experience to justify an extension past retirement age, why did the AF or Navy chiefs not get extensions? Why does the army reassign roles to its officers rather than keeping the same DG ISI or DG ISPR or Corps commanders until they die?

This extension is clearly unjustifiable and serves only IK and Bajwas personal interests. It also sets a dangerous trend. If you feel Bajwa - a product of the Pakistan Army - was and is qualified to be COAS, then trust that there are other officers who are also a product of the same force that are just as much (or more) capable. Pick and promote one of them.
