Just days after Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg said that he would not cow down to extremists and curb speech on the site, the social media network on Sunday apparently blocked a post by actor Hamza Ali Abbasi regarding Charlie Hebdo and limits of free speech.

On Sunday evening, Abbasi posted on his verified Facebook page, with 1.6 million fans, that the social media website had removed his post and warned him after deactivating his profile.

According to a screenshot of the removed post that Abbasi uploaded, Facebook said they had removed it since it violated its community standards. It was not clear under which aspects of the community standards was the post removed.

Abbasi, a former civil service trainee, tried to explain in the post under which circumstances executions are permitted in Islamic law and who can carry them out. He goes on to explain that despite the nature of some of the cartoons printed by publications such as Charlie Hebdo, which have caused riots in Pakistan before, it did not give anyone the right to commit murder.

“Yes, even my blood boils when someone insults my Prophet (pbuh) …. But that does not give individuals the right to kill.”

He went on to argue that while freedom of speech should “include criticism, disagreement or even rejection of faiths or ideology… but should not and must not allow “insult”.”

Abbasi urged the West to revisit and fix its definition of ‘freedom of speech,’ adding that failure to do so would result in someone from the vast comity of Muslims may go “ballistic and kill unjustly.”

The actor is quite vocal on social media and regularly shares his opinions on issues with his fans.

Hence my point, selective application of 'freedom of expression'.

I am sure shouting out to Obama or Cameron or Hollande "Fck your mom' or something along the lines wouldn't be met pretty cordially. Neither will saying 'Hey nigger' to Obama.

The post is pretty threatening...

you got that right. and if he is an actor with any kind of fan following, this could tantamount to inciting violence...get him to jail

Freedom of speech has limits. You are not protected when exercising your capacity to threaten another person, group or nation. Under US laws the act of making a threat can constitute assault (the implied intention to commit physical or mental harm, battery occurs when you actually harm someone).

That said, I didn't really see anything wrong with his message, though the last line is problematic. Also, please read Facebook's bylaws. They state that making threats is against their rules and will not be protected. Anyone claiming this is a violation of free speech needs to understand that there is no such concept and a business has the right to censor you if you violate their rules.

Free speech has its limits!!! The presence of moderators here on PDF, whose servers are hosted in the US, should be a clear indication that your ability to say what you want has its limits should the organiztion hosting those thoughts take exception to them.

Freedom of expression does not means insult to other religious minorities

This is the part that EUROPE does not understands , when things go wrong they have a history of blaming it on Gypsies and other minorities

Since Muslims Migrated into EUROPE this hate is now directed at Muslim community

This behavior has to be controlled

Freedom of expression , can't be at expense of laughing or belittling another religious entity

When it crosses that mark , it becomes mocking , and challenging for a response it becomes a provocation

Only the university circles are gifted enough to debate such topics a normal JOE on a dirt market in Europe , is only good for drinking French Wine and rambling garbage andcalling it free speech

The PROBLEM with free speech argument is when an opposing view comes EUROPE , simply censors that opposing view out of fear of it being correct as proven by the post above FACEbook does have its operating office in EUROPE for taxation stealing purpose or those tiny islands

That is wrong. We can insult our leaders and nothing happens.

that's essentially a threat. Change your freedom of expression or the 2 billion will come for you. That's pretty innocent.
I don't see it as a threat. He was simply warning the west not to by hypocritical when it comes to free speech, or consequences could be expected from the 2bn Muslims.
