F-16s for Pak could cloud IAF's 126-plane deal: India to US

n a reaction that is bound to raise the hackles in Islamabad, one of the US makers of F-16 fighter jets, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics has made an open attempt to mollify India after concerns were raised by New Delhi.

Over the F-16 deal with Pakistan, Lockheed Martin has told TIMES NOW that New Delhi's concerns are unwarranted because the F-16s being provided to India are far superior to the ones being given to Pakistan.

Speaking to TIMES NOW, Orville Prins, Vice President, Business Development-India, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics said India has no need for concern. The super viper for India is the most advanced version of the F16s and that it meets and exceeds all of India's Medium Multi Role Combat Aircraft requirements.

The assurance from the US makers comes after a similar one was given by the US Ambasador to India, Timothy Romer.

India's concerns

It is reported that earlier this year when the Indian foreign secretary was in Washington there were concerns raised. Pakistan F-16 with laser-guided bomb kits besides other sophisticated equipment will give Pakistan an edge over India.

Also, that armed drones like 'Predators' asked by Pakistan will be used against India and will change equations in the region.

These fighters were never meant for pakistan but for defending against china.We had enough before if it was only pakistan.Somehow pakistan is a red herring always used to confuse or misguide and orignal thought is lost by our politicos.It is a good excuse to hide their inefficiencies and goras both american and russian are willing to use this herring. Look how a weapon meant for china is affecting everybody here.

Itsn't pakistan blackmailing the whole world about the requirements to fight the terrorists in its own background - Give us money or else we will allow them to operate from our soil Eg - Asking USA for $ 50 Billion and Asking UK for more market access.

India is trying to put some pressure on the basis of defence procurements - what's wrong with it.

Every country will use whatever is at their disposal to undermine the other country.

Funny....its not 18 F-16........It would be 18 (New Block 52) + 45(Upgraded to Block 52) = 63 can do some serious impression even against 150 MKI's.


Pak already paid for these F-16's.


Now do u think USA having prob to sell F-16 or F-18.
They have number of intrested couuntriesd wanted to buy moe then 100's of these but USA is not intrested to sell them.....

They have more then 900 Billion $'s annual budget defence. So 10B $ is just a rice seed for them.

I suggest u to find out the reason Y USA offered F-16 or F-16 to India.



F-18 is the best ever jet for any Navy.

Clearly you did not understand my post:

I clearly said 18 more which implies the new one plus the old ones - Seriously you are not proposing to the readership that 63 odd F-16's Block 52 will be enough to handle 150 Su 30MKIs and 50 odd Mirage 2000 5s? and above all your optimism is very high - you are not even counting the pending Tejas and the 126+ MMRCA hmmmm!

The question is not about 10 bn in context of their budget but 10 Bn versus supplying you with more F-16s and what they get out of it! I see that critical reasoning is not your forte!

Please name a single order of 126+ planes being ordered by any other country at the moment?

F-18 is the best Navy Jet - Y? just because the US uses it and thats why its planning on a CVTOL JSF-F35II? hmmmm......

My assessment is simple - it may be the case or may not!

First, the Block52's are being paid for by Pakistan, and therefore not under 'US aid', secondly, has the following delivery schedule changed?

from Dec-09 issue of AFM;

' LM unveilled the first of 18 new F-16C/D Block 52 aircraft for the PAF in a ceremony at its Fort Worth, Texas, facility on October 13. The aircraft, the first two-seat F-16D, 10801 (c/n JF-1, USAF/07-0013), had made its maiden flight from Ft.Worth on September 29 and made a second sortie on October 1. The PAF ordered 12 F-16C Block 52s (c/ns JE-1 to JE-12, USAF serials 07-0001 to 07-0012), and six F-16D Block 52 (s/ns JF-1 to JF-6, USAF serials 07-0013 to 07-0018) on September 30, 2006. All the aircraft will equip a new squadron that are to be based at the recently modernised Shahbaz Air Base near Jacobabad in Sindh. The deal also includes the modification of 26 previously embargoed F-16A/Bs and 34 mid-life upgrade kits for existing PAF F-16 fleet. Four F-16s are currently being used as 'pattern aircraft' for the MLU work at Ft.Worth, with the 'production work' being carried out by Turkish aerospace company, TUSAS based at Ankara-Murted.

Although the four previous PAF F-16 deals had been dubbed Peace Gate I to IV, at the request of the PAF because of the negative connotations of the embargo on deliveries (which have now been lifted), the Block 52 order is designated Peace Drive I. The PAF received its first F-16 in F-16A/B Block 15 configuration in 1982 and the new programme now brings total PAF F-16 orders to 78, with 9 having been lost to accidents. The first F-16D under the Peace Drive I programme will be handed over to the USAF (as agent for the PAF FMS process) in December. First aircraft arrivals in Pakistan are due in June 2010, with delivery of all 18 expected to be completed in December 2010.'

12 embargoed F-16A/B are still to be delivered.

Right that is why Pakistan has been asking for the same Nuclear deal for over 4 years and has not gotten a decent response

and

India raises concerns and we have the Assistant Secretary of State and Lockheed top guy trying to placate us in only a days time.

This shows how WEAK (NOT WEEK) WE ARE as compared to PAK!

India to France - don't sell radars and missiles to Pakistan or Rafale is out of the MMRCA

India to Sweden - don't sell AWACS to Pakistan or Gripen is out of the MMRCA.. oops, they already did.

India to US - don't sell F-16 to Pakistan or F-16 and F-18 are out of the MMRCA ..oops they already did

The thread will be re-opened when the US changes the delivery schedule of the Block 52's, or when India decides to increase the number of aircraft it is buying to 128*(France, Germany, US, Sweden) 4 = 512+ aircraft.
