yes F-14 is definitely useful it's a long range interceptor such capability cannot be found on other US jets, including F-35 and F-22. But the problem is they cost a lot to maintain, especially since the US is no longer making spare parts for the jets in fear that some of them could make their way to Iran.

The US would not want such advanced F-14 close to Iran so that's a definite no no. Unless we convince Iran to sell us a few, which the US will happily agree to, but the problem is that Iran won't be selling them.

All the F-14s were supposedly shredded/scrapped. Follow the link:

iran was keeping its f-14 in the air by using some russian parts and most it manu it self so no probs there anyway same could be siad 4 the pakistani f-16 how did thay keep them flying when thaygot salped with the arms embargo and ran short of parts 4 the f-16

.
the f-14 isn't too heavy for its thrust power? I heard that the variable wings were improved on the tarnado because of the system were too complex...

.
F-14 c.a.p is not mached till this day by any plane it can most likely fly all around india and then some on its gas tanks

.
the a model had problems by the time the D model came out it was never a problem thay have the same power plant as the f-16 and the general dynamics F-111

you hit the nail on the head.... CHEAP....pakistan dont need CHEAP pakistan needs multi range fighter with long range and packs a mighty punch F-16 cant j-10 still to prove it self so it only leaves the f-14 think if it like every says so its this it that old etc etc why has iran still kept its f-14 in service after all its got tons of $$$ through its oil and can get the latest mig from russia becouse it knows the true value of the f-14 proved in 80s iran/iraq war

Iran still keeps its F-14s because they do not have any other option. They have been embargoed and cannot buy fighter Jets.

f86 saber seen most of the trucks and buses in pakistan..? when has pakistan had the latset of anything... and the f-16 aint young either f-14 d model is pre 80s frame with latest avonics, like umair86pk sayes

Lolz you are comparing local buses to Fighter jets. Oh and by the way, we have imported new buses just recently its just that our people like to destory them ourselves so they don't look "New" for more than a few months.

On the topic of comparison between F-16 and F-14, we have been using the former for more than 25 years, it is an aircraft which is being used by a lot of air forces around the world and is still in production so it is easier to get parts. Plus the older ones are being MLU'ed. While F-14 is only used by USA and Iran, we have neither experience nor infrastructure to maintain it, no possibility to get spare parts or MLU's, it is also twin engine which will be more expensive to maintain

I present my case here, we need the best fighter of its era, PAF should acquire P55 mustangs in 1000's.

iran was cannabalizing some of its f-14's to keep other f-14's in the air.

It would not mind to get 1-2 planes for research purpose and studying its designs

Its a beautiful plane

But its avionics would be outdated , and also weapons system would be a big issue

.
why are we discussing a plane that is history now. no doubt it was a great plane a marvel of aerodynamic engineering but now its retired may be before its time move on people.
