In the words of Afghanistan’s former President, Hamid Karzai, Pakistan and Afghanistan are like ‘inseparable brothers” due to the historical ethnic, historical, religious, and ethno-linguistic connections between both the countries. Despite the historical association, Afghanistan, from Pakistan emergence in 1947 till present-day, has failed to accept this regional homogeneity, in fact, it has always kept a stern approach towards Pakistan.
Afghanistan has never exhibited a resolve to establish or strengthen foreign relations with Pakistan, neither, did it acknowledge Pakistan efforts towards maintaining peace in the region.
From providing military assistance to food aid to harboring 5 million Afghan refugees, Pakistan has always extended helping hands towards Afghanistan, and Pakistan got an increasing hostility, opium, baseless allegations and terrorism in return.
Establishing peace in Afghanistan has always been on Pakistan foreign policy’s foremost priority. Pakistan has raised its concerns over the deteriorating security conditions in Afghanistan, and has emphasized establishing peace in Afghanistan on various international forums, yet, the Afghani administration has never missed out on a single chance to slander or run hate propaganda against Pakistan.
The recent assassination of Police Chief of Afghanistan Province Kandhar, General Abdul Razik along with Kandahar’s Intelligence Chief Abdul Mohmin along and Provincial Governor Zalmay Wesa, was made controversial by Afghani media and social media brigade.
A video of the deceased Kandhar’s Police Chief, Abdul Razik was widely circulated over the social media, where he had expressed his harsh views regarding Pakistan and Pakistan Army. The Afghani social media brigade started bashing Pakistan premier intelligence agency, ISI for killing Abdul Razik – a police chief, who himself had a blood stained history of conducting brutal tortures in Afghanistan.
It is not a hidden secret that Afghanistan’s anti-Pakistan narrative is strongly supported by the anti-state Pashutn Tahafuz Movement and National Awami Party (ANP) – a political party in Pakistan. The undue tweets from the leaders of PTM AND ANP expressing regret and sorrow over the murder of the assassin shows that the agenda of these leaders isn't peace by any means. ANP held a funeral prayer in absentia for the assassin in Peshawar, Pakistan which was also attended by Afghan Consulate officials in Peshawar. The ANP leaders hardly ever attended or held funerals prayers for patriotic soldiers of Pakistan Army who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
It is pertinent to mention that the controversial General Raziq was already on UN Human Rights Watch and was described as ‘Torturer in Chief’ for extra judicial killings, enforced disappearances and running torture cells where he mutilated the bodies of the imprisoned citizens. John Sifton, Asia advocacy director for Human rights watch said, "There are clear and credible allegations against Abdul Raziq".
The repeated human rights violations by Abdul Raziq in Afghanistan, is, what led him to this end. He was killed by his own Afghan national bodyguard for being a tyrant!
In order to honor and protect sovereignty, Afghanistan should stop United States and India from using its soil for their strategic interests. It is high time for Afghanistan to address its political failures rather than hurling oft-repeated, baseless allegations on Pakistan. Pakistan has suffered immensely due to the troubled security conditions in the neighboring Afghanistan. The civilian and military leadership in Pakistan have always demonstrated their serious intent towards bringing stability in the region. The leadership in Kabul will have to cooperate regionally and work towards the normalization of the relations between both the countries.
