Exclusive! Obama may back India's permanent UNSC membership bid

thats right, but then the question arises, should india go for it, if a permanent seat is offered without the veto ??

IMHO, yes. After that, its only a matter of time till the new perm UNSC members get the veto power. Also, it would be absurd if permanent members dont have veto power.

that surely is absurd, but it seems that the current members do not wish to share the veto power with the new members, including the US.

Ofcourse, power is corrupting! If it was me, I wouldn't want my power to be diluted. So is the case for the P-5. However, expansion of UNSC has do to do with changing world scenario and emerging powers. These powers will demand their pound of flesh and will try hard to get it. P-5 has to give in.

That is exactly the problem with expansion of UNSC. The G4 members have put all their eggs in one basket - so to speak, and have intertwined their destinies to win UNSC seats with each other.

Brazil and India are IIRC the only 2 members who have endorsement from all the members (expect a few ofcourse) for a permanent seat. China vehemently opposes Japan's bid while Germany has its own problems (Israel also opposes Germany's bid IIRC - correct me if I am wrong).

Everyone in G4 gets a seat or else whoever gets a seat rejects it if all dont get through.

Yes,but the coffee club is not going to affect G-4 that much, what is more important here is the african block, the 53 nation's will only vote in unison
