A former officer of thePakistanAir Force (PAF), who now heads a lethal fidayeen unit of thetaliban" target="_blank">Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), could be the possible mastermind of the June 8 terror strike on theJinnahInternational Airport inKarachi.

According to a report filed by The News, Adnan Rasheed, the mastermind of a 2003 assassination attempt on GeneralPervez Musharrafin Rawalpindi, is being cited as the person behind the attack on the airport three days ago.

It maybe recalled that Rasheed was freed in an unprecedented jailbreak episode on April 15, 2012 when around 200 Taliban militants armed with guns, grenades and rockets attacked the high-security Central Jail of Bannu.

He is said to be the chief operational commander of the Ansarul Aseer or the Helpers of the Prisoners, a lethal fidayeen unit of the TTP,whose stated mission is to secure the freedom for imprisoned jehadis by conducting jail break operations.

The attack on the Karachi Airport was executed by ten heavily armed Taliban fighters, including some Uzbek nationals belonging to the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU), which has become an integral part of the TTP due to the unique guerrilla skills of its militants.

All 10 Taliban fighters and other 18 people, including 11 security personnel and four airport workers, were killed during the fighting which lasted for at least six hours.

While Pakistani officials claimed that the Taliban sought to destroy the airplanes at the terminal, TTP spokesman Shahidullah Shahid said the Taliban had planned to hijack the aircrafts and use them for hitting targets at another place.

Another TTP leader said the Karachi airport was considered to be one of the most secured installation in the country and the June 8 attack gives a very clear message to the civilian and khaki leadership that no place in Pakistan, no matter how secure it is, was beyond the reach of the Taliban.

Somebody please find out if he takes the Kafir Indian Factor 8 vaccine too. :disagree:

He is most likely deceased - as well.

Reports in Western media mentioned that the assailants were highly trained. Eventually we may learn who did the training, but saying he was an officer if he really was not is sloppy journalism, I agree.

Dosen't matter whether he was an officer or an airman. The point is that he "was" part of the military in Pakistan. There could be many others like him.

It's hard to believe that a single ex-airman is responsible for mounting such terrorists attacks, without insider help its not possible. Some serious introspection is need of the hour.

Some American official did warn the sharif administration that Taliban might try to do a 9/11 like aircraft bombing on GHQ or some other important place. I believe GHQ should be shifted to some other place on urgent basis. It's awefully close to the airport. Had the terrorists hijacked a pindi bound plane, it would have been hard to tell if the plane was hijacked in the first place at all. Also Pakistan should form another policy. In case of a high profile, potentially devastating attack, like God forbid, assassination of COAS or ISI chief or something, then Pakistan should use nuclear weapons against Kunar, North Waziristan adn Nuristan.

I would first study exactly what nuclear weapons are, and what they do.

Use a tactical nuke, not a full blown one. And I did study the only two incidences in word history where nukes were used. USA was involved in those incidents. No hate.

Also Pakistani policy is clear in India's case. In case of a full blown invasion by Indian army, Pakistan would use nukes. An airplane bombing on GHQ or secretariat should be considered a similar offence. Pakistan can't really fight in Kunar and kill these punks over there.

New GHQ is already being build in Islamabad, but work keep delaying because of shortage of funds. This is how its supposed to look.
