Ex-LHC judge released on bail after 22 years
LAHORE: Former LHC judge Dr Mustafa Ismael was released on bail from Central Prison Rawalpindi on Tuesday after 22 years of imprisonment. Aaj TV reported that Ismael was incarcerated at various secret locations for six years and the police detained him in different Sindh and Punjab prisons without any trial for 17 years. It said that Ismael could not legally be detained for more than five years, adding that the Federal Investigation Agency had registered 32 fraud cases against him in 1992. According to Online, Ismael was arrested for serving notice on Begum Shafiqa Ziaul Haq to testify in court for a drugs case. In the case, the accused had testified that he had been involved in the case after receiving orders from former chief martial law administrator Ziaul Haqs wife. Ismael was arrested after he served notice on Begum Ziaul Haq to come and testify before the court on her involvement in the case.
