EU’s Ashton proposes new nuclear talks with Iran

European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton has written Iran's top nuclear negotiator proposing new talks on its nuclear program as soon as possible. But Ashton stresses in her letter to Iran's Saeed Jalili, the talks should initially focus on agreeing to a confidence-building measure that could make way for sustained dialogue on resolving larger international concerns about Iran's nuclear program.

"At this stage, the main focus of efforts will have to be on building confidence by developing concrete and practical steps," Ashton wrote Jalili, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, in a letter Tuesday obtained to Yahoo News.

"Therefore, looking forward to a sustained process of dialogue aimed at producing concrete results and in order not to repeat the experience of Istanbul, I would propose that we resume our talks at a mutually convenient date and venue as soon as possible," it continues. Ashton suggests in her letters that two deputies meet first to prepare for the next round of talks.

there ought to be a background of this open proposal.

Y are we even offering talks to them? they keep puting sanctions on us anyway, and they wont lift any...
this is a stupid move.

we dont need them anymore, they stopped buying our oil.

they want to overthrow the regime, its nothing to do with our nukes.

Iran was following Additional protocol for some years, on a good will, waiting for the West to keep their end of the deal and remove some sanctions, never happened. West lied, Iran stopped following Additional protocol.

Bottom line, I dont expect anything from these new talks. Its obvious, as others already mentioned, its all about regime change in Iran.

Images may suggest Iran is cleansing site

Iran has previously attempted to clean up sites considered suspicious by world powers.

Iran razed the Lavizan Shian complex in northern Iran before allowing inspectors to visit the suspected repository of military procured equipment that could be used in a nuclear weapons program. Tehran said the site was demolished to make way for a park, but five years ago inspectors found traces of uranium enriched to or near the level used in making the core of nuclear warheads.

The Iranians also embarked on an extensive redo at Kalay-e Electric Co., just west of Tehran, before inspectors were given access nine years ago. Samples taken from Kalay-e showed traces of enriched uranium, though at levels substantially below warhead grade.

I seriously, suspect that killing of Iranian scientists and all sort of other drama was part of the cleanup.

World is being made fool over Iran row but dynamics of events has always been unpredictable.

Its actually easy to debunk this article:

1. If Parchin was used for nuclear tests (any kind), it would leave radioactive traces, which you CANNOT hide or sanitize completely. Therefore the whole premise of this article is a lie, a pre-emptive story "why inspectors havent found anything in Parchin, again, Iran must have cleaned it up!" ;) Excuses for naive and gullible.

2. "But trucks were there!"

sure, and what military site is trucks-free? You mean US doesnt use trucks on its military sites? If they do, they must be hiding something! :azn:

3. "But Iran used Parchin for nuclear tests before 2003!"

IAEA inspectors visited site in 2005, twice, havent found any traces of such tests. And allegations of nuclear program "which was stopped in 2003" arent based on any facts either, look up fake "laptop files".

4. The trigger device "diplomats" are claiming it "could only be in the context of trying to develop nuclear arms", is used for nanodiamonds, a big industry in Iran.

On "Nuclear Iran" Allegations: Nanodiamonds Ain't Nuclear Bombs

5. Other "examples of bad Iran", covering its "tracks", like Lavizan Shian:

In Paragraph 39 of the IAEA's November 2005 report on Iran, the IAEA stated "The information provided by Iran appeared to be coherent and consistent with its explanation of the razing of the Lavisan-Shian area."
