Essar Wildcat, the semisubmersible drilling rig owned and operated by Essar Oilfields Services Limited (EOSL), has received a Letter of Award (LOA) from Star Energy (Kakap) Ltd, Indonesia to drill 3 offshore wells in North and South Kakap areas in the Natuna Sea, offshore Indonesia. This is the second contract for the Essar Wildcat in Indonesia. After the successful completion of the two-and-a-half-year, 13-well drilling contract with Supermajor ConocoPhillips, the Essar Wildcat will be mobilised for the drilling program of Star Energy and is expected to last 6 months.
EOSL has continued its winning streak, beating a field of strong competitors such as Ensco Plc and Songa Offshore, to emerge as the only firm that was techno-commercially qualified for this tender. In addition, the Wildcat’s LTI-free performance for the last five consecutive years was a serious differentiator.
Ankur Gupta, MD & CEO of EOSIL, said, “We are really pleased to have been awarded this contract. Two consecutive offshore drilling contracts in Indonesia have strengthened our position in the South East Asia region. We are dedicated to providing drilling services with high operating standards and HSE practices as we have done in the last several years”.
