ISLAMABAD: A leading Pakistani daily on Sunday called for emulating Arvind Kejriwal, who quit as chief minister of India's national capital, and said that "his simple demeanour and cry against corruption is a model the Pakistani aam aadmi could in time be inspired to try out".

An editorial "Delhi at a distance" in the Dawn appeared two days after Kejriwal tendered his resignation, bringing the curtains down on an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government that lasted 49 days in Delhi.

"In Arvind Kejriwal, the aam aadmi, or common man, in Pakistan did not just see an Indian politician out to entertain peeping neighbours with his public antics," said the editorial.

It lauded Kejriwal's "simple demeanour and cry against corruption" and called it "a model the Pakistani aam aadmi could in time be inspired to try out, depending on Kejriwal's journey in New Delhi".

Though the AAP journey in Delhi has been stalled, the editorial said that Kejriwal's tenure lasted "more than Atal Behari Vajpayee's 13-day first stint as prime minister all those years ago".

It stressed that the AAP, which was formed over a year back, "cannot as yet be written off as a flash-in-the-pan player".

But, it warned, that there are serious dangers about its future, "given the 'uncompromising position' Kejriwal was found in right at the time of his hasty departure".

It went on to say that the "problem with the aam aadmi everywhere is that his understanding of issues and his solutions are simple".

"Kejriwal had the awareness to peg his politics to corruption but he must have been bluffing when he said he expected established parties such as Congress and BJP to allow AAP a free way for the passage of laws to fight this disease."

"They did not give him the expected space and he is now left with the task of widening his challenge and relaunching his campaign for real power."

The daily said that Kejriwal, 45, has been "advised to be more discreet and practise the art of the possible rather than go for the forbidden".

"This is exactly the course other aam aadmis have taken to graduate in politics. Only they are no more aam once they reach up there."

Kejriwal type could not be a answer to Pakistan's problems, where an insurgency is going on. People trusted IK, but what he is doing just now is appeasing Taliban.

.
AAP sounds like rawgabbit at times but I still believe that only they could have gone against an Ambani.Even the BJP supporters here would not take umbrage to if I say Modi will never dare it.I am not even talking about congress run by Ambanis.
Yes AAP has got the Indian politicians to pull up their socks.

so India's robin hood quits... alas he couldnt bear the pressure, not even for a month... I was really looking forward to see AAP getting stronger..and hoping professional politicians would be beaten, but the mafia wins again !

while our Khan is there fighting for our rights for 17 years against the same type of political mafia... and he just wont give up, that is one of the things I started supporting Imran Khan, he wont abandon us, never..!!

. .
People have gone against Arvind Kejriwal and the way he managed the government and erratic governance. People don't want such erratic people as their leaders, no promises kept. Sorry he has let the people of Delhi down.

Not really...I think he was very smart to have quit now.
His minister and he had made some serious blunders including Somnath bharti (the internet troll),law minister’s ‘vigilante’ action against Africans and announcing bill waiver for those who took part in power tariff protest.
AAP is still a fledgling...they're anti corruption which ofcourse is a good motto but they have no idea how to go about it.
Right now they 're concentrating on the coming elections and quitting the government would give them sufficient time to strengthen themselves and avoid further embarrassing controversies.

You are getting it wrong. Resigning from CM post should not be taken as retiring from politics. He has not left. He is still there. Though I like him but there is no chance for anyone against Modi this time.

This "ex Law Minister" has been threatening people with legal consequences on twitter if they talk about "Ugandan women" or "Spamming".

AAP has to "restructure" itself.
One Somnath Bharti and Prashant Bhushan are enough to get them to cede ground.

True he should've kept trying and shouldn't have quit and should've concentrated on Delhi rather than eyeing loksabha elections. Because of his quitting act it have raised speculation that he might have resigned so as
to make himself PM candidate from AAP. I believed him earlier but not anymore.
