First test flights of T129 attack helicopters produced within the framework of Turkish ATAK program will start in spring of 2011.

Executer vice-president of TAI (Turkish Aerospace Industries) Inc. United Helicopters Systems Emre Yazichi told APA.

To him, it is planned to give the first T129 helicopter to the Armed Forces in July of 2013: “Currently, discussions which began from May, 2012, conducted due to handover of 9 helicopters for use in internal security operations, for emergence need of land forces are just about to end”.

Informing about the features of T129, Yazichi said that the helicopter was produced by TAI according to NATO standards. Its weapon and avionics systems exceed “Apache” and “Tiger” helicopters. Generally T129 has superiorities among its analogues in NATO armies for its implementation of tasks. At the same time, the helicopter may be served by few personnel.

Yazichi said that such improvement may be realized in all helicopters of Azerbaijani Armed Forces: “TAI has realized the improvement of civil and military aircrafts, as well as helicopters successfully. We think that Azerbaijan may realize joint works in several spheres in meeting needs of improvement together with Turkey”.
