"History beckons for the United Arab Emirates as it seeks on Tuesday to place a probe around Mars.
The Hope spacecraft, launched from Earth seven months ago, is about to reach the decisive moment in its long journey - orbit insertion.
Currently moving at over 120,000km/h (75,000mph), it must fire its braking engines for 27 minutes to be sure of being captured by the planet's gravity.
Success would enable Hope to begin its mission to study Mars' climate.
"We're entering a very critical phase," said project director, Omran Sharaf. "It's a phase that basically defines whether we reach Mars, or not; and whether we'll be able to conduct our science, or not.
"If we go too slow, we crash on Mars; if we go too fast, we skip Mars," he told BBC News.
Hope is the first of three missions to arrive at the Red Planet this month. On Wednesday, the Chinese Tianwen-1 orbiter will also try to make it into orbit."

So UAE will become the 2nd Asian country after India to reach Mars.
To be noted that the Indian mars probe is still operational in orbit around mars , 7 years after reaching mars in 2014.

Best of luck to UAE'ans.

.
The insertion into Mars orbit starts at 3.15 utc today. Thats around 8.30 ist.
Uae is transmitting it live like India did.
Free and transparent societies.

Transmitting live doesn't mean it's a free and transparent societies. Stop kidding yourself. Didn't India just block the internet access against farmer protest?

Compared to the Chinese who transmit launches only after success, its very transparent. No idea why china is so afraid of failures , space is a risky business and you cant really hide failures now.
In anycase, its a big day for uae and we should concentrate on wishing the 2nd Asian country well to reach mars orbit successfully.
Remember their success is not your failure , so no need to be offended.

You must be kidding? I guess u didn't even bother to check, lunar sample mission collection whole process, which part of the process is not live? You are selective in your argument. Typical Indian style, flip flop and lollipop. :enjoy:

I am not going to allow you to spoil this thread with your inferiority complex.
Last answer to you.

Inferiority complex? We are going to Mars to put an orbiter, a lander and a rover. While UAE is going to put a orbiter only, same as India..

We have make lunar sample return and going to put a 100tons space station into space in near future. Who is the inferiority complex?

Your crapped lunar lander crash and still got cheek to brag a 98% success. The only one need to feel inferior is Indian and not any other one. :enjoy:

@Dark1 thanks for making this thread. Exciting times for western Asia :) i guess i will allow the kids to stay up a little later today to watch this
I follow nearly all live pathbreaking space activities on nasaspaceflight or YouTube.
A Mars insertion is amongst the most risky with 50 % success rate.
So do involve all your family for this pivotal moment.
Its very exciting and I am not even from uae .

@Beast Ok brother we get it, you guys are better. can you please not derail this thread more than it already is ?

I am not the one who derail this thread. It is the Indian having inferiority complex decide to draw us in by mentioning some unsubstantial matter.
Look who started this thread and definitely not me.

My big suggestion to UAE too, don't collaborate with India in spqce if they offer. Becos you will go backward instead of progress with Indians involved. :enjoy:

The United Arab Emirates' first mission to Mars arrives at the red planet on Tuesday and will attempt a tricky maneuver to place it in orbit. The Emirates Mars Mission is known as the Hope Probe, and it is expected to arrive at Mars and send back a signal at 10:42 a.m. ET.

The UAE Space Agency will share live coverage of Hope's arrival on February 9 beginning at 10 a.m. ET on its website.
When the spacecraft arrives, the Hope Probe will mark the UAE as only the fifth country in history to reach the red planet. The ambitions of the mission don't stop there.

The probe, along with its three scientific instruments, is expected to create the first complete portrait of the Martian atmosphere. The instruments will collect different data points on the atmosphere to also gauge seasonal and daily changes.
This information will provide scientists with an idea of what climate dynamics and weather are like in different layers of the Martian atmosphere. Together, this will shed light on how energy and particles, like oxygen and hydrogen, move through the atmosphere and how they even escape Mars.

The mission was one of three that launched to Mars from Earth in July, including NASA's Perseverance rover and China's Tianwen-1 mission. Hope will orbit the planet, Tianwen-1 will orbit the planet and land on it, and Perseverance will land on Mars.
All three missions launched around the same time due to an alignment between Mars and the Earth on the same side of the sun, making for a more efficient journey to Mars. Hope is the first of those missions to arrive at Mars; Tianwen-1 is expected to arrive on February 10 and Perseverance on February 18.

Confirmation of burn to reduce velocity
Dubai one coverage is really bad. Too much fluff instead of focusing on the control room and sequence of events.
