A more meaningful comparison would be total man-hours or man-miles in space.

Man being gender-neutral, of course.

Well SpaceX would still be ahead as at least 12 of their astronauts have stayed on the space station for six months while China has had only 3 for six months and another 3 for just three months. The rest were measured in weeks.

That's fine but, going forward, it seems a more useful metric than just number of people. NASA has an enviable head start and a wealth of knowledge accumulated over the years in the effects of space travel and space residency on human physiology and psychology.

Well using that metric China would likely always be at the bottom as Crew Dragon carries 4 and Shenzhou only 3 and both programs max out at six month stays...plus SpaceX on the side also launches tourists who don't even go to the station.

That's leaving China in an unfair position for the foreseeable future.

I see at least four distinct categories (I am only focusing on manned missions):

1. The ferry to/from Earth to an orbiting station. We need reliable, reusable, economical systems and we have good competition going across the world.

2. Long term stay in an orbiting space station. This will help us study humans in space over extended periods but still reliant on Earth for supplies and emergencies.

3. Manned journeys to the Moon and beyond. This will test different psychological factors, as well as much more emphasis on recycling and self sustenance.

4. Semi-permanent settlement on another world. Yet another milestone and a wealth of challenges and learning experiences.

Nobody cares about how many astronaut you send to space. It just like Indian bragging it can send world record mini satellites when its space payload are still pathetic compare to US, Russia, China and ESA.

The number of astronauts you send to space is according to the need of your mission and space activities. You mean you spend extra USD25 million on each astronaut just to brag its surpasses China number? LOL..

ISS has 11 nation participates and 10 astronaut can stay in ISS at the same time. While current China space station can accommodate 3 and only China is involved. You expect CNSA to have the same frequency to send astronaut to our space station as SpaceX? You think China cannot have a high frequency of manned mission to space station as SpaceX?

It just like some bragging China not able to build a space shuttle when we all know US space shuttle is nothing but a massive failure associate with high cost and ill efficient which even NASA themselves abandon the US space shuttle. China is not stupid to go the route that proves to be failure, not becos China cant...

Growth up, kid! :enjoy:

Dont laugh, with usa behaving more like india by the day, this is closer to the truth than many may think.

usa obviously think starving americans due to inflation from printing $$ is a small sacrifice so their billionaires can pay Mush to send them to 'space'.

LOL! Considering the Chinese on PDF spent a good portion of their time laughing at SpaceX just a few years ago and saying we should stick with the Russian RD-180 engine since we "don't know how to build rocket engines anymore"...I find it ironic you are now very triggered by this thread.

Maybe the growing up was done by the Chinese on this board as they aren't laughing anymore. :enjoy:

Funny thing is the Chinese aren't measured by how others are doing. They are just doing their own thing at their own pace. The dick measuring contest are mostly obsessed by white anglo American.

LOL.. Have you even build a RD180 comparison and put into service yet? What does this about how many manned mission compare to US inability to build a RD180 share?

Typical tactics trying to sidetrack from real topics. :enjoy:

China is still new in manned spaceflight compared to US and Russia. So it's normal they are still way behind , Russia and the US have accumulated decades of experience before China even had a manned soace program.
Its true though that SpaceX has moved with lightening speed in almost every sector (manned spaceflight, rocket launches, satellite program etc. Makes every country's space agency look like amateurs/slow.

SpaceX has achieved what many thought was impossible for a private space company . They are just too good. Its crazy what they are doing . Even boeing with all their experience struggled with starliner for so long, compare this with SpaceX X. Have to hand it to Musk , the guy is a legend.

How much of SpaceX’s technology is the development of people that worked at the other launch companies like UnitedLaunchAlliance and just went to go work for Musk? Isn’t his private venture the result of our taxpayer funded R&D over the last 7 decades? I haven't looked into what innovations SpaceX made beyond their reusable concept and large thrust engines, but isn’t the rest of the technology just industry knowledge from other companies?

Well their Crew Dragon is a completely new design...they could have taken a shortcut and leveraged the Apollo capsule like China did with their Shenzhou from the Soyuz.

However Boeing (who makes the competing Starliner spacecraft) likely wasn't eager to hand SpaceX (their competitor) any of the Apollo spacecraft plans since they now own them after acquiring Rockwell International (the original Apollo maker) and are leveraging it for their own Starliner.

SpaceX had to even design their own flightsuits.

You may recall many of the established big aerospace companies (especially ULA) were making a lot of money soaking the US government for high fees and weren't about to help SpaceX take away a slice of their pie. So SpaceX was pretty much on their own and built much of their stuff from scratch. They even had to buy their rocket metal from a European company since nobody was going to help them out.

WTF? LOL! It seems their standard of measurement is almost always how they are doing compared to the US!

It's things like..
China has more highways than the US, China has more HSR than the US, China per capita GDP is x percent of the US, China has more papers than the US, China military now has this and that compared to the US, China is catching up on this/that of the US.

I don't see some new stories everyday by the Chinese comparing themselves to Vietnam...do you? What country are they comparing their achievements the most to...maybe you think Uganda perhaps?
