A grenade blast near a mosque today left eight people injured in Shopian district while another grenade was detected and defused near the house of a Hizbul Mujahidden militant.

Police suspect that militants had “planted” the grenade outside the mosque in Trenz locality of Shopian, 52 km from here, in the wee hours.

“The grenade was kept on roadside in a steel glass after removing its pin. Someone touched it, triggering the blast at around 6 am,” a police official said.

He said eight civilians who had come out of the mosque after morning prayers were injured in the explosion.

All the injured were admitted to a hospital in Shopian, he added.

About an hour later, police detected another hand grenade, which was also kept in a steel glass with “its pin removed”, near the house of an active Hizbul Mujahideen militant Wasim Malla at Pehlipora in Shopian.

“A bomb disposal squad was rushed to the spot and the grenade was destroyed without causing any loss,” he added.

how does a Muslim terrorist justify blowing up other Muslims going to or from prayer??

if a non-muslim did this you would see protests and even violence, why don't we see the same outrage??

At least twelve civilians and four policemen were injured as militants lobbed a grenade at a police vehicle in Shopian on Monday.

Preliminary reports suggest the police vehicle was at Shopian’s Batapora Chowk, housing a Sumo stand, when militants attacked with a grenade. The grenade exploded on the road.

A police official said one woman was among the four civilians hit by splinters. “The injured were shifted to a hospital,” he said.

Reinforcements were rushed to the area. However, no contact was established with the militants.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday night raided two houses in Shopian district in connection with the militant attack on the Nagrota Army base in 2016.

The central agency raided the house of Obaid Ahmad Mir and the house of militant Khalid Farooq Malik at Aliyalpora in Shopian.

“NIA officials along with police and paramilitary personnel raided the houses on Saturday night,” said an eyewitness who is a resident of Aliyalpora.

He said the NIA sleuths videographed the houses and took away mobile phones. The raids were conducted following the arrest of Tariq Ahmad Dar of Chillipura of Shopian by the NIA in the case. He is in the custody of the central agency.

However, both the NIA and the police denied that the raids were conducted in Shopian. “We have not conducted any searches at Shopian,” NIA spokesperson Alok Mittal said.

Senior Superintendent of Police Shailendra Mishra also said no raids were conducted by the police in Shopian. — TNS
