Yesterday the Egyptian President Al-Sisi proceeded to sign a decree, by which Egypt unilaterally determines its maritime borders with Libya. Egypt's demarcation contradicts the Turkish-Libyan memorandum, which it "cuts" in half.
Egyptian media reported that in October, Egypt and Greece condemned the hydrocarbons deal between Turkey and the Tripoli government.
This is the third move by Egypt, against Turkish interests in the region, after the delimitation of an Exclusive Economic Zone between Greece and Egypt and the recent signing of an agreement for joint search and rescue operations in the region.

Where the Turks are hoping for a full normalization of their relations with Egypt, Sisi comes and gives a resounding answer that brings the Turks back to reality. It is clear that Sisi is not kidding or compromising, but is fully committed to both equipping the Egyptian Armed Force's and serving Egyptian national interests in North Africa, the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East. Interests which are directly harmed by the Sultan Erdogan with his bigoted policy.

Who has the strongest navy in the region?Turkey or Egypt

Questions:

1. How Turkey and Libyan maritime deal is illegal?

for several reasons.....
  1. The GNA government did not have the authority to sign such an deal/agreement at that time(article 8 of the Skhirat Agreement of 2015).
  2. It was not approved by the House of Representatives of Libya, this agreement was unequivocally rejected by the President of the House of Representatives of Libya, Aguila Saleh Issa, in a letter sent to the United Nations Secretary-General.
  3. The maritime rights of Greece and Egypt were not taken into account.
  4. You can't talk about e.g. Turkish EEZ, since you don't recognize UNCLOS(e.g. Turkey).

2. How Egypts "unilateral" maritime boundary declaration is legal?.

It will be considered legal if it also passes the Egyptian Parliament. Libya can simply take Egypt to the International Court of Justice in The Hague, and there the final decision will be made.
However, the current Libyan government, apart from being legitimate, its term has expired 1.5 years ago, does not have the political will to do so, because quite simply it is an instrument of Turkish politics.

BTW, agean sea looks like a greek pond lol...

The Aegean Sea has always been a crossroads of civilizations, among them the most famous, the Greek.

The Turks wont recognise most of the waters east from Crete, probably wont effect this Egyptian announcement, that will affect Libya more.

The only thing Turkey accepts as a neighborhood bully is what it believes to be its right. And in this dangerous game, part of Libyan political life has been dragged.

Pairing Sisi’s announcements with ExxonMobil’s exploration to the southwest of Crete, it becomes de facto evident to the Tripoli administration that it cannot act solely to serve Turkish interests in a way that violates the rights and concerns of other countries in the region. Sisi’s message came immediately after the joint letter of the Turkish and Tripoli foreign ministers to the UN against Greece’s rights off Crete.

The North-South line between points 8 and 9 of the demarcation announced by Egypt is 25° 22′ 0.4373″ Meridian.

This is explained by the geography of the Gulf of Sidi-Barani (Egypt) and Bardiya (Libya) where equidistant lines coincide with the 25° Meridian.
The 25° Meridian eliminates the influence of Turkey south of Crete and determines the contact point south of Crete of the EEZ to be demarcated only between Greece-Egypt-Libya.

Because in the Turkish-GNA/GNU Libyan Memorandum the Line of Contact between Turkey and Crete is located at about 26° 20′ Meridian, (in the sea east of Ierapetra approximately off the site of “Xirokambos”), i.e. about 42 miles east of 25° 22′ Meridian , the following paradox/incomprehensible/ridiculous is created........
that is, while Turkey "agreed that it abuts" Libya at approximately 26° 20' Meridian, yet the tri-national contact point of Greece-Egypt-Libya is further West, at 25° 22' Meridian.

The distance between 25° 22′ and 26° 20′ Meridian is about 42 miles or 67.2 km.
That is, it follows that in these 42 miles the Greek EEZ is inserted from the 25° Meridian and therefore Libya is NOT IN CONTACT with Turkey, so the Turkish-GNA/GNU Libyan Memorandums is canceled by not having a common tangent line between Turkey and Libya

lol

Egypt chose side of Greece and let ther Arab brothers 😄, but it does not change the fact Turkey is ther. Giving warlord(haftar) the power so it can accept the letters of a foreigner power.

Turkey is master in playing games, Turkey have inivted UK to come and play the games. It seems this faking Greece is now complainging about UK. EU come and stop UK, this is not European union of you not act against UK.

Now i understand why UK warship was harbored in Tripolo couple months ago.

You can see the map what Egypt is imposting on Libya. Case closed about the mighty power.

Obviously what you say you have...exposed, you have exposed to yourself. After all, you are only responding to a comment about historical culture with a political comment, that is, out of place and time.

Haftar is a great democrat, human right activist. He is the great leader that suits for western powers, as long he obey he is ok 😆 . Dictators are expendable, they can kill ther own people, you look away and do not talk about human rights of if they democratically elected.
