Egypt not considering measures against Lebanon's Hezbollah: CNBC

CAIRO (Reuters) - President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has said that Egypt is not considering taking any measures against Hezbollah despite Saudi Arabia’s call for sanctions against the Lebanese Shi‘ite political and military group.

Saudi Arabia, main backer of Egypt, has said Hezbollah should be disarmed and kept out of the Lebanese government.

“The subject is not about taking on or not taking on, the subject is about the status of the fragile stability in the region in light of the unrest facing the region,” Sisi told CNBC in an interview when asked if Egypt would consider its own measures against Hezbollah.

“The region cannot support more turmoil,” he said.

Riyadh blames Hezbollah for the resignation of Lebanon’s preeminent Sunni politician, accusing it of hijacking Lebanese politics. But Saudi Arabia is also criticized Lebanon as a whole, saying it too has declared war on the kingdom.

The resignation on Saturday of Saudi-allied Lebanese prime minister Saad al-Hariri, announced from Riyadh and blamed on Iran and Hezbollah, is seen by many as the first step in a Saudi intervention in Lebanese politics.

Sisi told Lebanon’s speaker of parliament on Sunday Egypt is opposed to any interference in Lebanon’s internal affairs.

“The president expressed Egypt’s interest in preserving security and stability in Lebanon ...and affirmed the importance of avoiding all forms of sectarian and religious tensions or violence, and its opposition to attempted interference in Lebanon’s internal affairs,” Sisi’s office said in a statement after he met Speaker Nabih Berri in Cairo.

“It’s up to the Lebanese to reach the political settlement of their choice,” the statement said.

Sisi came to power when as military commander he led the overthrow of former President Mohamed Mursi of the Muslim Brotherhood in 2013 following mass protests. Saudi Arabia backed the move and subsequently showered Egypt with aid.

Hezbollah is the best group that's standing for the rights of Palestinians. Only Israel and its allies (hint: Lawrence of Arabia) oppose Hezbollah. Iran is doing a great job by support them. I'm really happy that Pakistan and Iran are improving ties.

Big surprise. I thought he would tow the Zionist/Saudi line.
I think Egypt will make the right decisions. Like Qatar and Turkey already understood the zionist game and stood together.

Bad headline? It sounds to me like he's still considering his options.

. . . . .
If IDF can go there I suppose Egyptian Military force and visit Gaza to analyse the water contamination reports or review the situation with the electricity and economic issues with power generators. Now obviously unless they are attacked Egyptian forces would not have a real need to return fire

Lately people have reported too many Doves flying around and it is causing disturbances in night time

. .
May be Egypt can move 40,000 Troops in Gaza for Humanitarian Aid ?
It is the least Egyptian brothers can do for Palestinians in Gaza , help out with security

:o:

Egypt has virtually been an Israeli ally. This is why I was surprised at Sisi's statement.

The 'siege of Gaza' is imposed by Israel and Egypt.

Sisi is not sincere in his statement. It is the pressure from the European union as the latter clearly said that they won't let any instability in Lebanon and if you know that Sisi is trying to get weapons from France so that can be crippled. Furthermore, he does not want to strengthen Islamic Brotherhood.

accusing it of hijacking Lebanese politics.

Lebanese politics is downright retarded. Why do they need a Christian president and a Sunni prime minister? Why do political positions have religions assigned to them?!

Zionist/Saudi line.

Saudi Arabia does not support Israel. Get this through your thick brain.

I think Egypt will make the right decisions.

???

Bad headline?

Nope. Screw off Israeli.

It's like you want Israel to declare war on us.

the only force who might consider to get in to gaza strip is idf.

Yeah, No. IDF can go f*ck themselves.

to analyse the water contamination reports or review the situation with the electricity and economic issues with power generators.

We have re-opened trade with them, they will be able to replace these things soon.

The 'siege of Gaza' is imposed by Israel and Egypt.

Not and. Hamas backed MB, therefore, they were blockaded. If they had dropped the MB then there would be no problems.

The "Siege of Gaza" is only being perpetrated by one side and it's Israel.

Not a suprise...since Egypt sent Soldiers in ASSad Syrian side...for "unknown" reason... SO why condemning the ally of mine...

Egypt never went alongside Saudi anti Iranian line...why starting now...

.
Eygyptians have more closer bond with Palestinians there is a connection from past struggles.
In all honesty since Palestine is a independent state if they request Egypt's assitance to improve security I really don't see why Israel would have an objection.

:o: Since Israel errected the big giant walls , I doubt there is any problem with border identification

30,000 to 40,000 Egyptians in Gaza and Other part of Palestine fairly reasonable

It is not like Egypt is going into Israel
