Eddie Van Halen, whose innovative and explosive guitar playing kept the hard rock band that bore his family name cemented to the top of the album charts for two decades, died on Tuesday morning after a long battle with cancer. He was 65.

Just loved these guys. I grew up in the 80's. It's tough losing a part of your childhood when these folks pass on.
RIP big Van.....:(

Sad news. Another legend leaves. RIP big man

Thanks for the music & memories! You will be missed! :smitten:

Grew up listening to Van Halen and of course, anyone who played an ounce of guitar was somehow and someway influenced by this guy, a true virtuoso. Sad day for sure but you know, he was plagued with illnesses through the decades and IIRC, he had hip replacement surgery on both hips from all the cocaine he did and the ensuing jumping on stage where he didn't realize he was hurting himself. Then of course smoking like crazy and always with a butt jammed in the head stock strings. Hey, you play hard, you live hard. RIP to one of the greatest.

Speaking of growing up...he married One Day at a Time's Valerie Bertinelli which was certainly a heartbreak for many a teen boy.

Speaking of people not knowing how bad things used to be in the 70's...watch this struggling to survive show. Toss in Good Time's too...yeesh it makes me sick thinking about it all. The years of dented cars on the roads.

Oh yeah! That was like "uhh...I can see the cute match" but you knew right away the bad boy/good girl combo wouldn't last a day lmaoooo.

This pretty much defined him. Eruption.
