Pakistani investments in India will come under the scanner of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) after some reports have surfaced that a lot of Pakistani money has come to India illegally.
According to Times Now, plenty of funds come into India directly and indirectly from Pakistan and are invested in business enterprises as well as to fund non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and pro-Pak propaganda agencies. The ED and intelligence agencies have been asked to probe the flow of such funds and their recipients.
Though Pakistan enjoys the ‘Most Favoured Nation’ status (a favour it has consistently refused to reciprocate), investments from that country have to get prior sanction from the Union government instead of being channelled through the automatic foreign direct investment route.
Some agencies and NGOs that are suspected of having received funds from Pakistan, albeit indirectly after being routed through third countries in the Middle East, will also be put under the scanner. These bodies are believed to have been carrying out subtle pro-Pakistani propaganda in the guise of promoting friendship between the two countries.
The Enforcement Directorate and some intelligence agencies are already probing the flow of Pakistani money to separatists in Kashmir and are cutting off this flow in a planned manner.
